والخمرة بالضم: سجاد تعمل من سعف النخل وترمل بالخيوط.

The woman covered her head, and indeed she has a beautiful head covering.
وفى المثل: " إن العوان لا تعلم الخمرة ".
And in the proverb: 'The experienced woman does not learn the head covering'.
والخمر بالتحريك: ما واراك من شئ.
And al-khamr (with harakah): that which covers you from something.
يقال توارى الصيد مني في خمر الوادي.
It is said, the game hid from me in the cover of the valley.
خمره ما واراه من جرف أو حبل من حبال الرمل، أو شجر، أو شئ.
Its cover is what conceals it from a cliff, a sand dune, trees, or anything.
ومنه قولهم: دخل فلان في خمار الناس، أي فيما يواريه ويستره منهم.
And from this is their saying: so-and-so entered into the crowd of people, meaning into what conceals and hides him from them.
ويقال للرجل إذا ختل صاحبه: " هو يدب له الضراء ويمشى له الخمرا ".
And it is said of a man if he deceives his companion: 'He plots harm for him and walks the hidden path for him'.
وأخمرت الأرض: أي كثر خمرها.
And the land became abundant in cover: meaning its covering things became numerous.
وأخمرت الشئ: أضمرته.
And I concealed the thing: meaning I hid it.
وخمر الناس: زحمتهم، مثل خمارهم.
And khamr al-naas: their crowd, like their khimaar.
ويقال أيضا: وجدت خمرة الطيب: أي ريحه.
And it is also said: I found the scent of the perfume: meaning its fragrance.
وقد خمر عني فلان بالكسر يخمر، إذا توارى عنك.
And so-and-so hid from me, he hides, if he becomes concealed from you.
ومكان خمر، إذا كان كثير الخمر.
And a place is khamr, if it is abundant in cover.
والخمير والخميرة: الذي يجعل في العجين.
And al-khameer and al-khameerah: that which is put into the dough.
تقول: خمرت العجين أخمره وأخمره خمرا: جعلت فيه الخميرة.
You say: I leavened the dough, I leaven it, I leaven it with khamr: I put the leaven into it.
يقال عندي: خبز خمير، وحيس فطير، أي خبز بائت.
It is said with me: leavened bread, and unleavened hais, meaning stale bread.
أبو عمرو: وخمرت الرجل أخمره: استحييت منه.
Abu Amr: And I made the man ashamed, I make him ashamed: I felt shy of him.
وخمر فلان شهادته: أي كتمها.
And so-and-so concealed his testimony: meaning he hid it.
والتخمير: التغطية.
And al-takhmir: covering.
يقال: خمر وجهك، وخمر إناءك.
It is said: cover your face, and cover your pot.
والمخمرة: الشاة يبيض رأسها ويسود سائر جسدها، مثل الرخماء.
And al-mukhammarah: a sheep whose head is white and the rest of its body is black, like al-rakhmaa'.
والمخامرة: المخالطة.
And al-mukhamarah: mixing.
وخامر الرجل المكان، أي لزمه.
And the man frequented the place, meaning he stayed in it.
ويقال للضبع: " خامري أم عامر "، أي استتري.
And it is said to the hyena: 'Hide yourself, O mother of عامر', meaning hide yourself.
واستخمر فلان فلانا، أي استعبده.
And so-and-so enslaved so-and-so, meaning he took him as a slave.
من استخمر قوما أولهم أحرار.
Whoever enslaves a people whose first among them were free.
يقول الرجل: أخمرني كذا وكذا، أي أعطنيه هبة لي وملكني إياه.
A man says: 'Grant me such-and-such', meaning give it to me as a gift and grant me ownership of it.
