كأن أصحابه بالقفز يمطرهم * من مستحير غزير صوبه ديم
As if his companions on the plain were rained upon * from a heavy cloud whose downpour was continuous.
والحير بالفتح: شبه الحظيرة أو الحمى، ومنه الحير بكربلاء
And Al-Hayr (with fatha) is like a pen or a protected area, and from it is Al-Hayr in Karbala.
والحيرة بالكسر: مدينة بقرب الكوفة، والنسبة إليها حيرى وحارى أيضا على غير قياس
And Al-Hira (with kasra) is a city near Kufa, and the attribution to it is Hirri and Hari also, unconventionally.
ويقال: لا آتيك حيري دهر، أي أبدا
And it is said: I will not come to you for a Hirri of time, meaning never.
