وبرت الناقة أبورها بورا بالفتح، وهو أن تعرضها على الفحل تنظر ألا قح هي أم لا، لأنها إذا كانت لاقحا بالت في وجه الفحل إذا تشممها.
And the she-camel was presented for her fertility test, meaning she is shown to the stud to see if she is pregnant or not, because if she is pregnant, she will urinate in the stud's face when he sniffs her.
بضرب كآذان الفراء فضوله * وطعن كإيزاغ المخاض تبورها
With blows like the ears of fur, and thrusts like the miscarriages that test them.
وبار الفحل الناقة وابتارها، إذا تشممها ليعرف لقاحها من حيالها.
And the stud camel tested the she-camel and sniffed her, if he sniffed her to know her pregnancy from her non-pregnancy.
بر لي ما عند فلان، أي اعلمه وامتحن لي ما في نفسه.
Test for me what is with so-and-so, meaning inform me and examine for me what is in his soul.
