And if not for that, 'al-' would not be permissible to enter upon it, because it is a definite feminine noun, so it was treated in their speech like a tribe, and not like a neighborhood.
فرت يهود وأسلمت جيرانها
The Jews fled and abandoned their neighbors.
وهود: اسم نبى ينصرف

هذه هود، إذا أردت سورة هود
