قال أبو زيد: مددنا القوم، أي صرنا مددا لهم: وأمددناهم بغيرنا.
Abu Zayd said: We became reinforcement for the people, meaning we became support for them: and we provided them with others as support.
وأمد الجرح: صارت فيه مدة.
And the wound produced pus: pus became in it.
وأمد العرفج إذا جرى الماء في عوده.
And the 'urfuj plant produced sap if water flowed in its stem.
ومددت الإبل وأمددتها بمعنى، وهو أن تنثر لها على الماء شيئا من الدقيق ونحوه فتسقيها.
And I provided fodder for the camels and I provided them with it, meaning to scatter for them near the water something of flour and the like, then water them.
ماء إمدان: شديد الملوحة، هو إفعلان بكسر الهمزة.
Water of Imdan: intensely salty, it is 'if'alan' (with kasrah on the hamza).
