And it is said: 'I do not know which 'Ād he is,' indeclinable, meaning which people he is.

والعيد: ما اعتادك من هم أو غيره.

And al-'īd: that which recurs to you, whether worry or something else.

فالقلب يعتاده من حبها عيد

So the heart is visited by a recurring [feeling] from its love for her.

When I say 'he is awake,' a recurring [feeling] visits him.

والعيد: واحد الأعياد، وإنما جمع بالياء وأصله الواو للزومها في الواحد، ويقال للفرق بينه وبين أعواد الخشب.

And al-'īd: is the singular of al-'a'yād, and it was جمع with ya' and its origin was waw because of its necessity in the singular, and it is said to distinguish it from the sticks of wood.

وقد عيدوا، أي شهدوا العيد.
