And the land has been rained upon, so it is 'mujoodah' (watered by abundant rain). The rajaz poet said: Its pasture is the most noble of growth, growth... the الصل, the صفصل, and the يعضيد... and the camel with the well-watered hump.

وجاد الرجل بماله يجود جودا بالضم، فهو جواد.

And the man 'jaada' (gave generously) with his wealth, he 'yajood' (gives generously) 'joodan' (generosity), so he is 'jawad' (generous).

وقوم جود، مثل قذال وقذل - وإنما سكنت الواو لأنها حرف علة - وأجواد وأجاود وجوداء.

And a people of 'jood' (generous), like 'qadhaal' and 'qadhal' - and the 'waw' was silenced because it is a weak letter - and 'ajwaad', 'ajaawid', and 'joodaa'' (generous people).

وكذلك امرأة جواد ونسوة جود مثل نوار ونور.

And likewise a woman 'jawad' (generous) and women of 'jood' (generous), like 'nuwwaar' and 'noor'.

صناع بإشفاها حصان بشكرها ... جواد يقوت البطن والعرق زاخر.

Skilled with their soft hands, chaste in their gratitude... generous, sustaining the belly, and the vein is overflowing.

وتقول: سرنا عقبة جوادا، أي بعيدة، وعقبتين جوادين، وعقبا جيادا.

And you say: we traveled a 'jawad' (long) pass, meaning distant, and two 'jawadayn' (long) passes, and passes of 'jiyaad' (long).

وجاد الفرس، أي صار رائعا، يجود جودة بالضم، فهو جواد للذكر والاثنى، من خيل جياد وأجياد وأجاويد.

And the horse 'jaada' (became excellent), meaning it became magnificent, it 'yajood' (becomes excellent) 'joodatan' (excellence), so it is 'jawad' (excellent) for male and female, from horses of 'jiyaad' (excellent), 'ajiyaad', and 'ajaawid'.

And 'al-joodah': the thirst. Dhu al-Rummah said: He keeps giving it to drink when he is 'jaada' (thirsty), 'joodatan' (thirst), a sip like the taste of honeyed ginger.

وأجدت الشئ فجاد.

And the thing 'ajadat' (yielded), so it 'jaada' (was good).

And 'al-tajweed' is similar.

وقد قالوا: أجودت كما قالوا: أطال وأطول، وأحال وأحول، وأطاب وأطيب، وألان وألين، على النقصان والتمام.

And they have said: 'ajawdat' (was complete) as they have said: 'ataala' and 'ataawala', 'ahaala' and 'ahaawala', 'ataaba' and 'ataawaba', 'alaana' and 'alaawana', indicating deficiency and completeness.

And a poet 'majwaad' (very eloquent), meaning very distinguished.

وأجدته النقد: أعطيته جيادا.

And I 'ajadtuhu' (gave him excellent currency) the currency: I gave him fine coins.

واستجدت الشئ: عددته جيدا.

And I 'istajadtu' (considered it good) the thing: I counted it as good.

وجاودت الرجل من الجود، كما تقول: ماجدته من المجد.

And I 'jaawadtu' (competed in generosity) the man in generosity, as you say: I 'maajadtuhu' (competed in glory) in glory.

والجيد: العنق، والجمع أجياد.

And 'al-jeed': the neck, and the plural is 'ajiyaad'.

والجيد بالتحريك: طول العنق وحسنه: رجل أجيد، وامرأة جيداء، والجمع جود.

And 'al-jeed' with harakah: the length and beauty of the neck: a man 'ajeed' (long-necked), and a woman 'jaydaa'' (long-necked), and the plural is 'jood' (long necks).

والجادى: الزعفران، وقال الشاعر كثير: يباشرن فأر المسك في كل مهجع (1) ويشرق جادي بهن مفيد أي مدوف.

And 'al-jaadi': saffron. And the poet Kathir said: They touch the musk rat in every resting place, and my saffron shines with them, mixed.
