وجهد الرجل فهو مجهود، من المشقة، يقال أصابهم قحوط من المطر فجهدوا جهدا شديدا.
And a man became exhausted (majhud), from hardship; it is said they were afflicted by a drought of rain, so they suffered severe hardship (juhdan shadidan).
وجهد عيشهم بالكسر، أي نكد واشتد.
And their livelihood became difficult (jahada bi al-kasr), meaning it was miserable and severe.
والجهاد بالفتح: الأرض الصلبة.
And al-jihād (with fatha): hard ground.
وجاهد في سبيل الله مجاهدة وجهادا.
And he struggled in the way of God, a struggle (mujāhadah) and a striving (jihādan).
والاجتهاد والتجاهد: بذل الوسع والمجهود.
