والطماح: اسم رجل من بنى أسد بعثوه إلى قيصر فمحل بامرئ القيس عنده.
And Al-Ṭammāḥ: the name of a man from Banu Asad whom they sent to Caesar, and he was with Imru' al-Qays.
ونحن طمحنا لامرئ القيس بعدما * رجا الملك بالطماح نكبا على نكب.
And we aspired for Imru' al-Qays after * the king hoped through Al-Ṭammāḥ for disaster upon disaster.
وطمحات الدهر: شدائده.
