فَلَمْ يَجْعَلِ الادْلَاجَ مَعَ الصُّبْحِ، وَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ أَنَّ المُنَادِيَ كَانَ يُنَادِي مَرَّةً: أَصْبَحَ القَوْمُ، كَمَا يُقَالُ: أَصْبَحْتُمْ كَمَا تَنَامُونَ: وَمَرَّةً يُنَادِي: أَدْلِجِي، أَيْ سَيُرَى لَيْلًا.
He did not make 'al-idlij' (traveling at night) concurrent with morning, but rather he intended that the caller used to call out once: 'The people have reached morning,' as it is said: 'You have reached morning as you sleep:' and another time he calls out: 'Adliji,' meaning 'travel by night.'
وَالدَّالِجُ: الَّذِي يَأْخُذُ الدَّلْوَ وَيَمْشِي بِهَا مِنْ رَأْسِ البِئْرِ إِلَى الحَوْضِ حَتَّى يُفْرِغَهَا فِيهِ.
And 'al-dalij' is: the one who takes the bucket and walks with it from the head of the well to the cistern until he empties it therein.
وَقَدْ دَلَجَ يَدْلُجُ بِالضَّمِّ دُلُوجًا.
And he traveled, he travels (with 'dammah') 'dulujan'.
وَذَلِكَ المَوْضِعُ مَدْلَجٌ وَمَدْلَجَةٌ.
And that place is 'madlaj' and 'madlajah'.
كَأَنَّ رِمَاحَهُمْ أَشْطَانُ بِئْرٍ * لَهَا فِي كُلِّ مُدْلَجَةٍ خُدُودٌ.
As if their spears were well ropes * having in every place of water-carrying, channels.
وَمُدْلِجٌ بِضَمِّ المِيمِ: قَبِيلَةٌ مِنْ كِنَانَةَ، وَمِنْهُمُ القَافَةُ.
And 'Mudlij' with 'dammah' on the 'mim': a tribe from Kinana, and among them are the trackers.
وَالدَّوْلَجُ: كِنَاسُ الوَحْشِ، مِثْلُ التَّوْلَجِ.
And 'al-dawlij': the lair of wild animals, like 'al-tawlij'.
وَاجْتَابَ أَدْمَانَ الفَلَاةِ الدَّوْلَجَا.
And he traversed the sand dunes of the desert, the mirage.
وَالدَّوْلَجُ: السَّرَابُ.
