Al-bahjah: beauty.
يُقَال: رَجُلٌ ذُو بَهْجَةٍ.
It is said: a man of beauty.
وَقَدْ بَهِجَ بِالضَّمِّ بَهَاجَةً فَهُوَ بَهِيجٌ.
And he became radiant with joy (with dammah), experiencing radiance, so he is radiant.
قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: (مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ بَهِيجٍ).
Allah the Almighty said: (Of every joyous kind).
وَبَهِجَ بِهِ بِالكَسْرِ، أَيْ فَرِحَ بِهِ وَسُرَّ، فَهُوَ بَهِجٌ وَبَهِيجٌ.
And he was pleased with it (with kasrah), meaning he rejoiced in it and was happy, so he is pleased and radiant.
كَانَ الشَّبَابُ رِدَاءً قَدْ بَهِجْتُ بِهِ * فَقَدْ تَطَايَرَ مِنْهُ لِلْبِلَى خِرَقٌ
Youth was a garment with which I was delighted * so rags have flown from it due to decay.
وَبَهَجَنِي هَذَا الأَمْرُ بِالفَتْحِ، وَأَبْهَجَنِي، إِذَا سَرَّكَ.
And this matter delighted me (with fatha), and it made me delighted, if it pleased you.
وَأَبْهَجَتِ الأَرْضُ: بَهِجَ نَبَاتُهَا.
And the land became radiant: its vegetation became beautiful.
وَالابْتِهَاجُ: السُّرُورُ.
And al-ibtihaj: joy.
