يا أيها الراكب المزجي مطيته * سائل بني أسد ما هذه الصوت
O rider urging on his mount, ask Bani Asad what this outcry is.
فإنما أنثه لأنه أراد به الضوضاء والجلبة والاستغاثة
He feminized it because he intended by it clamor, uproar, and a call for help.
والصائت: الصائح
And the 'sa'it' is the one who cries out.
وقد صات الشئ يصوت صوتا، وكذلك صوت تصويتا
And a thing made a sound, making a sound, and it made a sound with vocalization.
ورجل صيت، أي شديد الصوت
And a man is 'sayyit', meaning loud-voiced.
وكذلك رجل صات وحمار صات
And likewise a loud-voiced man and a loud-voiced donkey.
كأننى فوق أقب سهوق * جأب إذا عشر صات الارنان
As if I am upon a swift, retreating mare, a she-camel that, when it is prodded, the braying is loud.
وهذا كقولهم: رجل مال: كثير المال، ورجل نال: كثير النوال
And this is like their saying: a man of wealth: rich in wealth, and a man of bounty: generous with bounty.
والصيت: الذكر الجميل الذي ينتشر في الناس، دون القبيح
And 'as-sayt' is the beautiful reputation that spreads among people, not the ugly one.
يقال: ذهب صيته في الناس، وأصله من الواو، وإنما انقلبت ياء لانكسار ما قبلها كما قالوا ريح من الروح
It is said: his reputation spread among people, and its origin is from 'waw', and it only turned into 'ya' due to the kasra before it, just as they said 'rayh' from 'ruh'.
كأنهم بنوه على فعل بكسر الفاء للفرق بين الصوت المسموع وبين الذكر المعلوم
As if they constructed it on 'fa'ala' with a kasra on the 'fa' to differentiate between the audible sound and the known reputation.
وربما قالوا: انتشر صوته في الناس، بمعنى صيته
And sometimes they say: his sound spread among people, meaning his reputation.
وقولهم " دعى فانصات "، أي أجاب وأقبل
And their saying 'he was called and he responded', meaning he answered and approached.
وهو انفعل من الصوت
And it is 'anfa'ala' from 'as-sawt'.

And 'al-munsaat' is the one of upright stature.
وقد انصات الرجل إذا استوت قامته بعد الانحناء، كأنه اقتبل شبابه
And a man becomes 'ansata' when his stature becomes straight after bending, as if he has regained his youth.
ونصر بن دهمان الهنيدة عاشها * وتسعين عاما ثم قوم فانصاتا
And Nasr bin Dahman Al-Hunaydah lived ninety years, then he straightened and became upright.
وعاد سواد الرأس بعد بياضه * وعاوده شرخ الشباب الذي فاتا
And the blackness of his hair returned after its whiteness, and the prime of the youth that had passed him returned.
