It is said it was named thus due to the length of its canine tooth, so it is like an adjective, and therefore the 'ha' is not attached to it, because the 'ha' is not attached to the diminutive of adjectives.
تقول منه: نيبت الناقة، أي صارت هرمة.
You say from it: 'nayyabat al-naqah', meaning the she-camel became old.
ولا يقال للجمل ناب.
And one does not say 'nab' for a male camel.
من العرب من يقول في تصغير ناب نويب فيجئ بالواو، لان هذه الالف يكثر انقلابها من الواوات.
