And al-kutub: the gathering. You say from it: I bound the mule, if you brought its lips together with a ring or strap, I bind and I bind a binding.
وكتبت القربة أيضا كتبا، إذا خرزتها، فهي كتيب.
And I also sewed the waterskin with a sewing, if you stitched it, it is a kutayyib.
وفراء غرفية أثأى خوارزها * مشلشل ضيعته بينها الكتب
And a ghurfiyyah fur whose stitches were loose, a dangling one I lost among them the stitches.
والكتاب: الكتبة.
And al-kitab: the stitching.
والكتاب أيضا والمكتب واحد، والجمع الكتاتيب.
And al-kitab and al-maktab are one, and the plural is al-katatib.
والكتاب أيضا: سهم صغير مدور الرأس يتعلم به الصبى الرمى، وبالثاء أيضا، والتاء في هذا الحرف أعلى من الثاء.
And al-kitab is also: a small arrow with a round head with which the boy learns to shoot, and with tha' also, and the ta' in this letter is higher than the tha'.
والكتيبة: الجيش، تقول منه: كتب فلان الكتائب تكتيبا، أي عباها كتيبة كتيبة.
And al-katibah: the army. You say from it: So-and-so arranged the battalions with arrangement, meaning he arrayed them battalion by battalion.
وتكتبت الخيل، أي تجمعت.
And the horses gathered, meaning they assembled.
كتبت الناقة تكتيبا، إذا صررتها.
The she-camel gave milk with a pressing, if you milked her.
أكتبني هذه القصيدة، أي أملها علي.
Dictate this poem to me, meaning, have it dictated to me.
وأ كتبت القربة أيضا: شددتها بالوكاء، وكذلك كتبتها كتبا، فهي مكتب وكتيب.
And I also tied the waterskin: I tightened it with the tie, and likewise I sewed it with a sewing, so it is a makhub and a kutayyib.
اكتتبت الكتاب، أي كتبته.
I copied the book, meaning I wrote it.

The man enrolled, if he wrote his name in the Sultan's register.
المكتب (1) : الذي يعلم الكتابة.
Al-maktab: he who teaches writing.
كان الحجاج مكتبا بالطائف، يعني معلما.
Al-Hajjaj was a teacher in Taif, meaning an instructor.
واستكتبه الشئ، أي سأله أن يكتبه له.
And he asked him to write the thing, meaning he asked him to write it for him.
والمكاتبة والتكاتب بمعنى.
And al-mukatabah and al-takatub are synonymous.
والمكاتب: العبد يكاتب على نفسه بثمنه، فإذا سعى وأداه عتق.
And al-muktab: the slave who contracts for himself for his price, so if he strives and pays it, he is freed.
