وذلك أنه أتاه أخ له يسأله شيئا، فقال عرقوب: إذا أطلع نخلى.

فلما أطلع قال: إذا أبلح.
When they bore fruit, he said: 'When they become ripe.'
فلما صار تمرا جده من الليل ولم يعطه شيئا.
When they became dates, he harvested them at night and gave him nothing.
وعدت وكان الخلف منك سجية * مواعيد عرقوب أخاه بيترب
You promised, and breaking promises was your habit * like the promises of 'Arqub to his brother in Yatrib.
