And al-ẓirbān, like al-qiṭrān: a small animal like a cat, foul-smelling.
تزعم الاعراب أنها تفسو في ثوب أحدهم إذا صادها، فلا تذهب رائحته حتى يبلى الثوب.
The Bedouins claim that it farts in one's garment if they catch it, and its smell does not leave until the garment wears out.
وفى المثل: " فسا بيننا الظربان "، وذلك إذا تقاطع القوم.
And in the proverb: 'The skunk farted between us,' and that is when people become estranged.
ألا أبلغا قيسا وخندف أنني * ضربت كثيرا مضرب الظربان
Indeed, convey to Qays and Khindif that I have greatly struck the place where the skunk is struck.

And the short ones did not make their noses * reach the depths of the waves of the vast seas.
وربما جمع على ظرابى، مثل حرباء وحرابي، كأنه جمع ظرباء.
And it is sometimes pluralized as ẓarābī, like ḥirbā' and ḥirābī, as if it were the plural of ẓirbā'.
وهل أنتم إلا ظرابي مذحج * تفاسى وتستنشي بآنفها الطخم
Are you not but the ẓarābī of Madhhij * farting and sniffing the strong scent with their noses?
ورجل ظرب مثال عتل: القصير اللحم.
And a ẓarib man, like 'atal: is short and fleshy.
يا أحسن الناس مناط عقد * لا تعدلينى بظرب جعد
O most beautiful of people in the place of a knot * do not compare me to a short, curly-haired one.
