It is said, 'They were afflicted by khab if the sea churned with them.'
قال الفراء: الخاب: واحد الخواب، وهي القرابات والصهر، يقال: لي من فلان خواب.
Al-Farra' said: Al-khābb: is the singular of al-khawābb, which are kinship ties and affinity. It is said: 'I have kinship ties with so-and-so.'
وخبخبوا عنكم من الظهيرة، أي أبردوا، وأصله خببوا بثلاث باءات، أبدلوا من الباء الوسطى خاء للفرق بين فعللل وفعل، وإنما زادوا الخاء بين سائر الحروف لان في الكلمة خاء.
And 'khabkhubū' from the midday heat, meaning 'cool down.' Its origin is 'khabbabū' with three bās, they replaced the middle bā with a khā to differentiate between fa'lalal and fa'ala. They only added the khā between the other letters because there is a khā in the word.
والخبخبة: رخاوه الشئ واضطرابه.
And al-khabkhabah: the softness of something and its agitation.

Humayd al-Arqaṭ said: 'Enough for me from supporting the two Khubaybs is enough.' * Whoever narrated 'al-khubaybīn' in the plural intended all three.
وقال ابن السكيت: يريد أبا خبيب ومن كان على رأيه.
And Ibn al-Sikkit said: 'He means Abu Khubayb and whoever was of his opinion.'
