والمثابة: الموضع الذي يثاب إليه، أي يرجع إليه مرة بعد أخرى.
And the 'mathabah': the place to which one returns, meaning returns to it time after time.
وإنما قيل للمنزل مثابة لأن أهله يتصرفون في أمورهم ثم يثوبون إليه، والجمع المثاب.
And the home is called a 'mathabah' because its people go about their affairs and then return to it, and its plural is 'al-mathab'.
وربما قالوا لموضع حبالة الصائد مثابة، قال الراجز:
And sometimes they call the place of the hunter's snare a 'mathabah', and the poet said:
حتى متى (1) تطلع المثابا * لعل شيخا مهترا مصابا
Until when will the snare-place appear? Perhaps an old, afflicted wild goat.
والمثاب: مقام المستقي على فم البئر عند العرش.
And the 'mathab': the place where the water-drawer stands at the mouth of the well near the frame.
والثواب: جزاء الطاعة، وكذلك المثوبة.
And 'ath-thawab': the reward for obedience, and likewise 'al-mathubah'.
وأثاب الرجل، أي رجع إليه جسمه وصلح بدنه.
And a man recovered ('athaba'), meaning his body returned to him and his health improved.
واستثابه: سأله أن يثيبه.
And 'istathabahu': he asked him to reward him.
والتثويب في أذان الفجر أن يقول: الصلاة خير من النوم.

قال ابن السكيت: وذلك إذا كانت المرأة قد دخل بها، أو كان الرجل قد دخل بامرأته.
Ibn al-Sikkit said: That is when the woman has been entered into (married), or the man has entered his wife.
تقول منه: قد ثيبت المرأة.
You say from it: 'The woman has been married' ('thuyyibat').
