وفلان يؤارب صاحبه، إذا داهاه.

والأريب: العاقل.

And al-areeb: the intelligent one.

والأرب أيضا: الحاجة، وفيه لغات: إرب وإربة، وأرب، ومأربة، ومأربة.

And al-arab also: the need, and it has several pronunciations: 'irb', 'irbah', 'arab', 'ma'rabah', and 'ma'rabah'.

وفى المثل: " مأربة لاحفاوة "، تقول منه: أرب الرجل بالكسر يأرب أربا.

And in the proverb: 'A need for kindness', you say from it: The man became needy, he becomes needy, with 'araban'.

وقوله تعالى: (غير أولي الإربة من الرجال) ، قال سعيد بن جبير: هو المعتوه.

And His saying, the Almighty: (Those among men who are devoid of sexual desire), Saeed bin Jubayr said: It means the simple-minded.

وأرب الدهر أيضا، إذا اشتد.

And the time also became severe, when it intensified.

وقال (2) : أرب الدهر فأعددت له * مشرف الحارك محبوك الكتد

And he said: The time became severe, so I prepared for it * One with a high shoulder blade, with a well-formed flank.

ويقال أيضا: أرب الرجل، إذا تساقطت أعضاؤه.

And it is also said: The man's limbs fell off, if his limbs became detached.

ويقال أربت من يديك، أي: سقطت آرابك من اليدين خاصة.

And it is said: Your limbs have fallen from your hands, meaning: your limbs have specifically fallen from the hands.

وأرب بالشئ أيضا: درب به وصار بصيرا فيه، فهو أرب.

And he became skilled in a thing also: he became trained in it and became knowledgeable in it, so he is skilled.

وقال الشاعر أبو العيال: يلف طوائف الأعدا * ء وهو بلفهم أرب

And the poet Abu al-'Ayyal said: He encircles the groups of enemies * And he is skilled in their entanglement.

والأربة بالضم: العقدة.

And al-urbah (with dammah): the knot.

وتأريب العقدة: إحكامها، يقال: ms0082 أرب عقدتك، وهي التي لا تنحل حتى تحل حلا.

And the tightening of the knot: securing it. It is said: Secure your knot, which is one that does not come undone until it is untied.

قال ابن مقبل: ضرب القداح وتأريب على الخطر (1) *

Ibn Muqbil said: Casting lots and securing against danger *

وتأريب الشئ أيضا: توفيره.

And the provision of a thing also: making it abundant.

وكل موفر مؤرب.

And everything provided abundantly is mu'arrab.

يقال: أعطاه عضوا مؤربا، أي: تاما لم يكسر.

It is said: He gave him a complete limb, meaning: whole and unbroken.

الأصمعي: التأرب: التشدد في الشئ.

Al-Asma'i: Al-ta'arrub: firmness in a matter.

يقال: تأربت في حاجتي، وتأرب فلان علي، أي تأبى وتشدد.

It is said: I was firm in my need, and so-and-so was stubborn towards me, meaning he refused and was firm.

وآربت على القوم، أي: فزت عليهم وفلجت.

And I prevailed over the people, meaning: I defeated them and was victorious.

ومننه قول لبيد: ونفس الفتى رهن بقمرة مؤرب (2) *

And from it is the saying of Labid: And a young man's soul is pledged for a complete moon *

ومأرب: موضع، ومنه ملح مأرب.

And Ma'rib: a place, and from it is salt from Ma'rib.

والاربى: الداهية، بضم الهمزة.

And al-araba: the calamity, with dammah on the hamza.

قال ابن أحمر: فلما غسى ليلى وأيقنت أنها * هي الاربى جاءت بأم حبو كرى
