والكفاء بالكسر والمد: شقة أو شقتان تنصح إحداهما بالأخرى ثم يخل به مؤخر الخباء.

And al-Kifā' (with kasra and madd) is a piece of leather or two pieces, one of which is sewn to the other, then the rear of the tent is attached to it.

تقول منه: أكفأت البيت إكفاء.

You say from it: I made the tent tilted (ikfā').

والإكفاء في الشعر: أن يخالف بين قوافيه بعضها ميم وبعضها نون، وبعضها دال وبعضها طاء، وبعضها حاء وبعضها خاء ونحو ذلك

And al-Ikfā' in poetry is to vary the rhymes, some being 'm' and some 'n', some 'd' and some 't', some 'h' and some 'kh', and the like.

وقال الفراء: أكفأ الشاعر، إذا خالف بين حركات الروى، وهو مثل الاقواء.

And Al-Farra' said: The poet commits ikfā' when he varies the vowels of the rhyme, and it is like iqwa'.

والكفئ: النظير. وكذلك الكف والكفؤ، على فعل وفعل.

And al-Kuf' is the peer. Likewise al-Kaff and al-Kuf', in the pattern 'fu'l' and 'fu'l'.

والمصدر الكفاءة بالفتح والمد.

And the masdar is al-Kafā'ah (with fatha and madd).

وتقول: لا كفاء له بالكسر، وهو في الأصل مصدر، أي لا نظير له.

And you say: He has no kifā' (with kasra), which is originally a masdar, meaning he has no peer.

وفى حديث العقيقة " شاتان مكافئتان " أي متساويتان

And in the hadith about the sacrifice 'two equal sheep', meaning they are equal.

وكافأته على ما كان منه مكافأة وكفاء: جازيته.

And I rewarded him for what he did with a reward and recompense: I recompensed him.

تقول: مالى به قبل ولا كفاء، أي مالى به طاقة على أن أكافئه.

والتكافؤ: الاستواء، يقال " المسلمون تتكافأ دماؤهم ".

And al-Takāfu' is equality. It is said: 'The blood of Muslims is equal.'

واكتفأت الإناء مثل كفأته، أي قلبته.

And I overturned the vessel like I kaf'tuhu, meaning I inverted it.

واستكفأت فلانا إبله، أي سألته نتاج إبله سنة،: فأكفأنيها، أي أعطاني لبنها ووبرها وأولادها سنة.

And I asked so-and-so for his camels' yield, meaning I asked him for the produce of his camels for a year: and he gave me their yield, meaning he gave me their milk, wool, and offspring for a year.

والاسم الكفأة والكفأة، يضم ويفتح، تقول: اعطني كفأة ناقتك وكفأة ناقتك.

And the noun is al-Kaf'ah and al-Kaf'ah, with damma and fatha. You say: Give me the yield of your she-camel and the yield of your she-camel.

وتقول أيضا: أكفأت إبلي كفأتين، إذا جعلتها نصفين تنتج كل عام نصفها وتترك نصفا، لأن أفضل النتاج أن تحمل على الإبل الفحولة عاما وتترك عاما

And you also say: I divided my camels into two yields (kaf'atayn), if you make them into halves, producing half each year and leaving half, because the best of the offspring is for the male camels to carry one year and leave the next.
