And indeed, he is good at returning (from anger), like al-fi'ah, meaning good at returning.

تقول منه: أفاء الله على المسلمين مال الكفار يفئ إفاءة

واستفأت هذا المال، أي أخذته فيئا
And I took this wealth as spoils, meaning I took it as fay'.
والفئ: ما بعد الزوال من الظل
And al-fay': the shade after the decline (of the sun).
فلا الظل من برد الضحى تستطيعه * ولا الفئ من بعد العشى تذوق
Neither the shade from the morning's coolness can you bear * Nor the afternoon shade after evening do you taste.
وإنما سمى الظل فيئا لرجوعه من جانب إلى جانب
And the shade is only called fay' because it returns from one side to another.
الظل ما نسخته الشمس، والفئ ما نسخ الشمس
The shade is what the sun erases, and al-fay' is what erases the sun.
كل ما كانت عليه الشمس فزالت عنه فهو فئ وظل
Whatever the sun was on and then moved away from it, it is fay' and shade.
وقد فيأت الشجرة تفيئة
And the tree has provided shade with its shade.
وتفيأت أنا في فيئها
And I sought shade in its shade.
وتفيأت الظلال، أي تقلبت
And I enjoyed the shades, meaning I moved about in them.
والمفيؤة: المقنؤة
And al-mafi'ah: the sheltered place.
