He scraped for him a scraping, on the pattern of 'fu'ūl', if you rub a stone on a stone, then place the dust on your palm, and polish a mirror with it, then use it as kohl.

والتحلئ بالكسر: ما أفسده السكين من الجلد إذا قشر، تقول منه: حلئ الأديم حلأ بالتحريك، إذا صار فيه التحلئ.
And 'at-taḥallu'' with a kasra: what the knife spoils of the leather when peeling; you say from it: 'aḍīmu ḥali'a ḥala'an' (the leather was spoiled) with harakah, if the spoiling occurred in it.

And you drove the camels away from the water 'taḥli'atan' and 'taḥlī'an', if you chased them away from it and prevented them from returning to it. A poet said:
لحائم حام حتى لا حوام به * محلا عن سبيل الماء مطرود
For camels that have drunk until no one can drink from it, driven away from the path to the water.
وكذلك غير الابل. قال امرؤ القيس:
And likewise other than camels. Imru' al-Qays said:
كمشى الاتان حلئت عن مناهل
Like the gait of a female donkey driven away from watering places.
ويقال: قد حلات السويق. قال الفراء: قد همزوا ما ليس بمهموز، لانه من الحلواء.
And it is said: 'Sawiq has been prepared.' Al-Farra' said: 'They hamzated what is not hamzated, because it is from 'al-ḥulwā'' (sweets).
