ويقال: دم فلان بواء لدم فلان، إذا كان كفؤا له
And it is said: the blood of so-and-so is equal to the blood of so-and-so, if he is his equal.
وفى الحديث: " أمرهم أن يتباءوا " والصحيح يتباوؤوا على مثال يتقاولوا
And in the hadith: 'He ordered them to be equal', and the correct form is 'yatabāwa'ū' on the pattern of 'yutaqāwalū'.
ويقال: كلمناهم فأجابونا عن بواء واحد، أي: أجابونا جوابا واحدا
And it is said: We spoke to them, and they answered us with one response, meaning, they gave us a single answer.
وأبأت القاتل بالقتيل، واستبأته إذا قتلته به، أيضا
And I brought the killer to justice for the slain, and I held him accountable for him, if I killed him for him, also.
أبو زيد: باء الرجل بصاحبه: إذا قتل به، ومنه قولهم: باءت عرار بكحل، وهما بقرتان قتلت إحداهما بالاخرى
Abu Zayd: A man is held accountable for his companion: if he is killed for him. And from this is their saying: 'Arar was held accountable for Kuhal', and they were two cows, one of which killed the other.
ويقال: بؤ به، أي كن ممن يقتل به
And it is said: 'Bū' bihi', meaning, be among those who are killed for him.
وباءوا بغضب من الله: رجعوا به، أي صار عليهم
And they returned with the wrath of God: meaning, they became subject to it, meaning, it became upon them.
وكذلك باء بإثمه يبوء بوءا
And likewise, he returned with his sin, returning with it, a return.
وتقول: باء بحقه، أي أقر، وذا يكون - أبدا - بما عليه، لا له
And you say: He acknowledged his right, meaning, he admitted it, and this is always regarding what is upon him, not for him.
أنكرت باطلها وبؤت بحقها عندي، ولم تفخر على كرامها
I denied her falsehood and acknowledged her right to me, and she did not boast over her noble ones.
وفى أرض كذا فلاة تبئ في فلاة، أي تذهب
And in such-and-such land is a desert that disappears into a desert, meaning, it goes away.
