And halumm, meaning 'come', is a compound of hā' al-tanbīh and 'lam', meaning 'join yourself to us'. It is used like a simple word, being the same for singular and plural, masculine and feminine among the Hijazis. Tamim treats it like 'radd', and the people of Najd conjugate it, saying: halammā, halammū, halammī, halamman. It may be followed by 'lām', so it is said: halamm laka. It is strengthened with 'nūn', so it is said: halamman. For the feminine, it is with a kasra on the mim, for the plural with a dammah, and for the dual, halammān, for masculine and feminine. And for women, halammanān.

ويقول المجيب: إلام أهلم، بفتح الهمزة والهاء، وأصله: إلام ألم، وترك الهاء على ما كانت عليه.

And the respondent says: ilām uhlim, with fath on the hamza and ha'. Its origin is 'ilām alim', and the ha' was kept as it was.

وإذا قيل: هلم كذا وكذا، قلت: لا أهلمه، وقد تضم الهمزة وحدها، وقد تضم الهمزة واللام، وقد تضم الهمزة وتكسر اللام، أي: لا أعطيكه.
