وَكَمَجْلِسٍ وَمَقْعَدٍ: عِطْرٌ شَاقُّ الدَّقِّ، أَوْ قُرُونُ السَّنْبَلِ سَاعَةٌ، وَبِنْتُ الْوَجِيهِ الْعَطَّارَةُ بِمَكَّةَ.
And like 'majlis' and 'maq'ad': a perfume difficult to grind, or the horns of the spike for an hour, and the daughter of the notable perfumer in Mecca.
وَكَانُوا إِذَا أَرَادُوا الْقِتَالَ، وَتَطَيَّبُوا بِطِيبِهَا، كَثُرَتِ الْقَتْلَى، فَقَالُوا: "أَشْأَمُ مِنْ عِطْرٍ مِنْشَمٍ".
And they, when they intended to fight and perfumed themselves with her perfume, the slain were many, so they said: 'More ill-omened than Minsham's perfume'.
وَثَمَرَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ مُنْتِنَةُ الرِّيحِ.
And a black fruit with a foul smell.
وَتَنَشَّمَ الْعِلْمَ: تَلَطَّفَ فِي الْتِمَاسِهِ.
And he sought knowledge subtly: he was refined in seeking it.
