And al-ta'allatu, al-'allatu, and al-'alala (with damma): that by which one is distracted.
والعلالة: ما حلب بعد الفيقة الأولى، وبقية اللبن وغيره من السير وكل شيء، وأن تحلب الناقة أول النهار ووسطه وآخره، والوسطى: العلالة.
And al-'alala: what is milked after the first milking, and the remainder of milk and other things from a journey and everything; and that a she-camel is milked at the beginning, middle, and end of the day, and the middle one is al-'alala.
وقد عالت الناقة، والاسم: ككتاب.
And the she-camel has 'alat, and the noun is like kitāb.
والعل: من يزور النساء كثيرا، والتيس الضخم العظيم، والقراد الضخم، والصغير الجسم، ضد، والرجل المسن النحيف، والرقيق الجسم المسن من كل شيء، ومن تقبض جلده من مرض.
And al-'all: one who visits women frequently, and a large, great ram, and a large tick, and small in body, the opposite, and a thin old man, and thin and old of everything, and one whose skin shrinks from illness.
والعلة: الضرة.
And al-'illa: the co-wife.
وبنو العلات: بنو أمهات شتى من رجل واحد، لأن التي تزوجها على أولى قد كانت قبلها ناهل، ثم عل من هذه.
And banu al-'allat: children of various mothers from one man, because she whom he married after the first one had previously been thirsty, then he 'alla from this one.
والعلة، بالكسر: المرض.
And al-'illa (with kasra): the illness.
عل يعل، واعتل، وأعله الله تعالى، فهو معل وعليل، ولا تقل معلول، والمتكلمون يقولونها، ولست منه على ثلج، و=: الحدث يشغل صاحبه عن وجهه، ومنه "لا تعدم خرقاء علة" يقال لكل معتذر مقتدر.
'alla yu'allu, wa i'tall, and may God Almighty 'a'allahu, so he is mu'all and 'alil, and do not say ma'lul, although the speakers say it, and I am not certain of it; and: an event that distracts its owner from his purpose, and from it is the saying 'no clumsy one is without an 'illa', said of every capable excuse-maker.
وقد اعتل.
And he has i'tall.
وهذه علته: سببه.
And this is 'illatuhu: its cause.
وقولهم: على علاته، أي على كل حال.
And their saying: 'ala 'allatihi, meaning in any case.
والمعلل، كمحدث: دافع جابي الخراج بالعلل، ومن يسقي مرة بعد مرة، ومن يجني الثمر مرة بعد مرة، ويوم من أيام العجوز.
And al-mu'allil (like muhdith): one who repels the tax collector with excuses, and one who waters repeatedly, and one who harvests fruit repeatedly, and a day from the days of the old woman.

And al-ya'lul: the white, flowing pool, and foam, and water bubbles, and white clouds, or a white piece of them, and rain after rain, and from dye: what is applied repeatedly, and a camel with two humps.
والعلعل، كهدهد وفدفد: الذكر، أو ما إذا أنعظ، لم يشتد، والقنبر الذكر، كالعلعال، والرهابة التي تشرف على البطن من العظم، كأنه لسان.
And al-'al'al (like hudhud and dadfad): the male organ, or when erect but not hard, and the male dove, like al-'al'al, and the prominence that overlooks the belly from the bone, like a tongue.

والعليّة بكسرتين وتضم العين: الغرفة ج: العلالي.
And al-'illiyya (with two kasras and the 'ayn with damma): the upper room, pl.: al-'alali.
وهو من علية قومه وعليتهم وعليتهم، بالكسر مخففة، وعليهم وعليهم: يصفه بالعلو والرفعة، و {إن كتاب الأبرار لفي عليين} الواحد: علي وعلية وعلية، أو جمع بلا واحد.
And he is from the elite of his people and their 'illiyya and 'uliyya (with light kasra), and 'uliyyahum and 'uliyyahum: describing him with loftiness and high status, and {Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyin} singular: 'ali, 'uliyya, and 'uliyya, or a plural without a singular.
وسيعاد في المعتل والعلعلان: شجر كبير.
And it will be repeated in al-mu'tall and al-'al'alan: large trees.
وتعلعل: اضطرب واسترخى.
And ta'al'ala: to be agitated and relaxed.
وعللان، محركة: ماء بحسمى.
And 'allan (vocalized): water in Hismā.
وعلعال: جبل بالشام.
And 'al'al: a mountain in the Levant.
وامرأة علانة: جاهلة، وهو علان.

وفي المثل "عرض علي سوم عالة"، أي: لم يبالغ، لأن العالة لا يعرض عليها الشرب مبالغا فيه، كالعرض على الناهلة.
And in the proverb "'urida 'ala sawmu 'alatin", meaning: he did not exaggerate, because 'ala is not offered excessive drinking, like offering to the thirsty.
وأعللت الإبل: أصدرتها قبل ريها، أو هي بالغين.
And I a'laltu the camels: I brought them to water before they were fully quenched, or they are at the watering place.
واعتله: اعتاقه عن أمر أو تجنى عليه.
And i'tallahu: he hindered him from a matter or wronged him.
