From Ibn Umar: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, when we went out with him to Ta'if, we passed by a grave, and he said: 'This is the grave of Abu Rigal, and he was of Thaqif, and he was from Thamud, and he was protected in this sanctuary, so when he left it, the punishment that afflicted his people struck him in this place, so he was buried in it' ... the Hadith.
وقول الجوهري: كان دليلا للحبشة حين توجهوا إلى مكة فمات في الطريق، غير جيد
And Al-Jawhari's saying: He was a guide for the Abyssinians when they headed to Mecca, so he died on the way, is not sound.
وكذا قول ابن سيده: كان عبدا لشعيب، وكان عشارا جائرا.
And likewise Ibn Sidah's saying: He was a slave of Shu'ayb, and he was an unjust tax collector.
وابنا رغال، كسحاب: جبلان قرب ضرية.
