'Do not remove a thorn with a thorn, for its crookedness is with it': This is said of a man who disputes with another. It is said the standard pronunciation is with harakah, because they say 'ḍaliʿa maʿa fulān', like 'fariḥa', but they have lightened it, so they say: 'Place so-and-so between me and you'; referring to a man who follows his own desires.
والضلع، محركة: الاعوجاج خلقة، ويسكن، ومنه: لأقيمن ضلعك، بالوجهين، أو هو في البعير بمنزلة الغمز في الدواب، ضلع، كفرح، فهو ضلع، فإن لم يكن خلقة فهو ضالع، وقد ضلع، كمنع.
And 'al-ḍilaʿ', with harakah: crookedness by nature, and with sukūn. From it is: 'I will straighten your crookedness', with both pronunciations. Or in a camel, it is like 'al-ghamaz' in other animals. 'ḍaliʿa', like 'fariḥa', so he is 'ḍaliʿ'. If it is not natural, he is 'ḍāliʿ', and he has become 'ḍaliʿa', like 'manaʿa'.
والضلاعة: القوة، وشدة الأضلاع، ضلع، ككرم، فهو ضليع، ج: ضلع، بالضم.
And 'al-ḍalāʿah': strength, and robustness of the ribs. 'ḍaliʿa', like 'karuma', so he is 'ḍalīʿ', plural: 'ḍuluʿ', with dammah.
وفرس ضليع: تام الخلق، مجفر، غليظ الألواح، كثير العصب.
And a 'ḍalīʿ' horse: perfectly formed, robust, with thick bones, and many sinews.
ورجل ضليع الفم: عظيمه، أو واسعه، أو عظيم الأسنان متراصفها.
And a man with a 'ḍalīʿ' mouth: large, or wide, or with large, closely set teeth.
ورجل أضلع: شديد غليظ، أو سنه شبيهة بالضلع، ج: ضلع، بالضم.
And an 'aḍlaʿ' man: strong and robust, or his teeth are like ribs, plural: 'ḍuluʿ', with dammah.

And 'al-ḍawlaʿ': one who inclines by desire.
والمضلوعة: القوس التي في عودها عطف وتقوم، وشاكل سائرها كبدها، كالضليع، والمضلوعة.
And 'al-muḍallaʿah': the bow whose shaft has a curve that stands, and its remaining part matches its core, like 'al-ḍalīʿ' and 'al-muḍallaʿah'.
