And seven women, and taking it is like taking seven, and it is forbidden. Either its origin is 'sab'ah' with a damma on the ba', which was lightened, meaning: a lioness, or it is the name of a giant man whom some kings captured, so they cut off his hands and feet and crucified him, and it was said: 'I will torment you with the torment of seven.'
والسبع: ة بين الرقة ورأس عين، وع بين القدس والكرك، لأن به سبع آبار، والموضع الذي يكون إليه المحشر، ومنه الحديث: "من لها يوم السبع".
And Al-Sab': a place between Raqqa and Ras 'Ayn, and a place between Jerusalem and Karak, because it has seven wells, and the place to which the gathering will be. And from it is the hadith: 'Who will take care of it on the Day of Al-Sab?'
أو أراد: من لها عند الفتن حين تترك بلا راع نهبة للسباع؟ فجعل السبع لها راعيا إذ هو منفرد بها.
Or he meant: Who will take care of it during the tribulations when it is left without a shepherd, prey to the predators? So he made Al-Sab' its shepherd as he is alone with it.
وروي بضم الباء، ويقال للأمر المتفاقم: إحدى من سبع.
And it is narrated with a damma on the ba', and for a serious matter it is said: 'One of seven.'
وكيف أخاف الناس والله قابض ... على الناس والسبعين في راحة اليد
And how can I fear people when Allah is the one who seizes... the people and the seventy in the palm of His hand.
والسبع، بضم الباء وفتحها وسكونها: المفترس من الحيوان، ج: أسبع وسباع، وأرض مسبعة، كمرحلة: كثيرته.
And Al-Sab', with a damma, fatha, and sukun on the ba': the predator among animals, plural: asbu' and sibaa', and a mawsze'ah land, like a stage: abundant in it.
فقالت له: والله لئن هممت بي لدعوت أسبعي، فقال: ما أرى في الوادي غيرك، فصاحت ببنيها: يا كلب يا ذئب يا فهد يا دب يا سرحان يا سيد يا ضبع يا نمر، فجاؤوا يتعادون بالسيوف، فقال: ما أرى هذا إلا وادي السباع.
So she said to him: 'By Allah, if you intend harm to me, I will call my predators!' He said: 'I see no one else in the valley but you.' She cried out to her sons: 'O dog, O wolf, O leopard, O bear, O wolf, O lion, O hyena, O tiger!' They came running with swords, and he said: 'I see this as nothing but the Valley of Predators.'
والسبعون: عدد م، ومحمد بن سبعون المقرئ المكي، وعبد الله بن سبعون: محدث.
And Al-Sab'un: the number m, and Muhammad bin Sab'un Al-Muqri' Al-Makki, and Abdullah bin Sab'un: hadith narrators.
وطاف بالبيت سبعا وأسبوعا وسبوعا.
And he circumambulated the Kaaba seven times, and a week, and a week.
وأسبع: وردت إبله سبعا، و القوم: صاروا سبعة، و الرعيان: وقع السبع في مواشيهم، و ابنه: دفعه إلى الظؤرة، و فلانا: أطعمه السبع، و عبده: أهمله.
And Asba'a: his camels came to water seven times, and the people: they became seven, and the shepherds: the predator fell upon their livestock, and his son: he entrusted him to the wet nurse, and so-and-so: he fed him to the predator, and his slave: he neglected him.
وسبعه تسبيعا: جعله سبعة، وجعله ذا سبعة أركان، و الإناء: غسله سبع مرات، و الله لك: أعطاك أجرك سبع مرات أو سبعة أضعاف، و القرآن: وظف عليه قراءته في كل سبع ليال، و لامرأته: أقام عندها سبع ليال، و دراهمه: كملها سبعين، وهذه مولدة، و القوم: تمت سبع مئة رجل.
And Sabba'ahu tasbi'an: he made it seven, and made it have seven corners, and the vessel: he washed it seven times, and Allah for you: He gave you your reward seven times or sevenfold, and the Quran: He assigned him its recitation every seven nights, and to his wife: he stayed with her seven nights, and his dirhams: he completed them to seventy, and this is a modern coinage, and the people: they reached seven hundred men.
والسباع، ككتاب: الجماع، والفخار بكثرته، والرفث، والتشاتم.
And Al-Sibaa', like Kitab: sexual intercourse, and boasting due to abundance, and obscenity, and mutual insults.
