And al-rayʿ (with kasra and fatha): the elevated part of the land, or any pass, or any road, or the open road in the mountain, and the elevated mountain, the singular is: bahāʾ, or the wadi's channel from any high place; and with kasra: the monastery, the dovecote, the high mound, and the horse of ʿAmr ibn ʿIṣm; and with fatha: the excess of everything like the excess of dough, flour, seeds, and the like, the shimmering of the mirage, and fear; and from everything: its beginning and its best, like its prime; and from the tunic: the excess of its sleeves; and from the forenoon: its whiteness and beautiful sparkle.
وليس له ريع، أي: مرجوع.

And to delay: to linger, to stop, and to be confused, like istarāʿa; and the mirage: it came and went; and the people: they gathered like rīʿū.
والمتريع: المتزلق، يصبغ نفسه بالأدهان.
