And al-jaz' (open vowel), and al-jiz' (broken vowel): the Yemeni or Chinese bead, with black and white in it, resembling eyes. Wearing it as a ring causes worry, sadness, frightening dreams, and conflict with people. If a difficult birth is wrapped with it, the child is born immediately. And with the broken vowel, Abu Ubaidah said: it is fitting for it to be open-voweled: the bend of the valley, its middle, its end, or its curve, or it is not called 'jaz'' unless it has a width that grows trees, or it is a place in the valley without trees, and it might be sand, and the encampment of a people, and the elevated ground overlooking a calm area, and a beehive, plural: ajzaa'. And a place to the right of Ta'if, and another to its left. And with the dhamma vowel: the axle around which the pulley turns, and open-voweled, and a yellow dye called al-hard, and roots.
والجازع: الخشبة توضع في العريش عرضا يطرح عليه قضبان الكرم، وكل خشبة معروضة بين شيئين ليحمل عليها شيء.
And al-jaazi' (active participle): the wooden beam placed horizontally in a trellis, upon which grapevine branches are laid, and every beam laid between two things to carry something.
والجزعة، بالكسر: القليل من المال، ومن الماء، ويضم، والقطعة من الغنم، وطائفة من الليل ما دون النصف من أوله أو من آخره، ومجتمع الشجر، والخرزة، ويفتح.
And al-jiz'ah (broken vowel): a small amount of money or water, and al-juz'ah ( dhamma vowel), and a portion of sheep, and a part of the night, less than half of its beginning or end, and a gathering of trees, and a bead, and al-jaz'ah (open vowel).
والجزع، محركة: نقيض الصبر، وقد جزع، كفرح، جزعا وجزوعا، فهو جازع وجزع، ككتف ورجل وصبور وغراب.
And al-jaza' (with harakah): the opposite of patience. And he became distressed, like 'faraha', with distress and impatience. So he is a distressed one (jaazi') and distressed (jazi'), like 'katif', 'rijl', 'saboor', and 'ghuraab'.

And another caused him distress.
وأجزع جزعة، بالكسر والضم: أبقى بقية.
And he left a remainder, with the broken vowel and dhamma vowel: he kept a remnant.
وجزعة السكين، بالضم: جزأته.
And the handle of the knife, with the dhamma vowel: its handle.
وجزع البسر تجزيعا، فهو مجزع، كمعظم ومحدث: أرطب إلى نصفه، ورطبة مجزعة، وفلانا: أزال جزعه، والحوض فهو مجزع، كمحدث: لم يبق فيه إلا جزعة.
And the dates ripened partially (tajzee'an), so it is partially ripened (mujazza'), like 'mu'azzam' and 'muhdath': ripened to half of it. And a date that is partially ripened (mujazza'ah). And he removed his distress (ajza'a), and the basin, so it is with little water (mujazza'), like 'muhdath': nothing remained in it but a small amount (jaza'ah).
ونوى مجزع، ويكسر: حك بعضه حتى ابيض، وترك الباقي على لونه، وكل ما فيه سواد وبياض فهو: مجزع ومجزع.
And a date pit that is partially scraped (mujazza' or mujza'), and with the broken vowel: part of it is scraped until white, and the rest is left in its color. And everything with black and white in it is: partially scraped (mujazza' or mujza').
وانجزع الحبل: انقطع، أو بنصفين، والعصا: انكسرت، كتجزعت.
And the rope snapped (injaza'): it broke, or into halves. And the stick broke, like 'tajazza'at'.
واجتزعه: كسره، وقطعه.
And he broke it (ijtaazahu): he shattered it, and cut it.
والهجزع، كدرهم: الجبان، هفعل من الجزع.
And al-hajza' (like dirham): the coward, a pattern from 'al-jaza'' (distress).
