وكانت له جفنة يأكل منها القائم والراكب لعظمها، قالت عائشة: يا رسول الله هل كان ذلك نافعه.

And he had a large trough from which the standing and the riding ate due to its size. Aisha said: O Messenger of God, would that have benefited him?

قال: "لا، إنه لم يقل يوما: رب اغفر لي خطيئتي يوم الدين".

He said: 'No, for he never said one day: My Lord, forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.'

وكلأ جداع، كغراب: فيه جدع لمن رعاه، أي: وبيل وخم.

And pasture Jida', like ghurab: it contains harm for whoever grazes on it, meaning: it is noxious and poisonous.

ومننه: الجداع: للموت.

And from it: Al-Jida': for death.

وصبي جدع، ككتف: سيئ الغذاء، وقد جدع، كفرح.

And a child Jud', like kutuf: poorly nourished, and he has been Jud', like fariha.

وجدعته أمه، كمنع: أساءت غذاءه، كأجدعته وجدعته.

And his mother Jud'atuhu, like mana'a: she raised him poorly, like Ajda'athu and Jad'athu.

وكسحاب، وقطام: السنة الشديدة، تجدع بالمال، وتذهب به.
