As for the saying of Abu Ubayd ibn Salam and other great scholars: 'This is a scribal error, and the correct reading is: to Ahad, because Thawr is only in Mecca,' it is not sound, because Al-Shuja' Al-Ba'li, the ascetic Sheikh, informed me, on the authority of Al-Hafiz Abu Muhammad Abd al-Salam Al-Basri, that near Ahad, leaning towards its rear, is a small mountain called Thawr. My question about it was repeated to groups of Arabs familiar with that land, and each informed me that its name is Thawr. And when Sheikh Afif al-Din Al-Matari wrote to me from his father, the trustworthy Hafiz, he said: 'Behind Ahad to its left is a small, round mountain called Thawr, known to the people of Medina from generation to generation.'
