وأبهر: جاء بالعجب، واستغنى بعد فقر، واحترق من حر بهرة النهار
And Abhara: he brought wonder, became rich after poverty, and burned from the midday heat.
وتلون في أخلاقه، دماثة مرة، وخبثا أخرى، وتزوج بهيرة
And he changed in his character, gentleness one time, and malice another, and married Bahira.
وابتهر: ادعى كذبا، وقال: فجرت، ولم يفجر، ورماه بما فيه
And Ibtehara: he claimed falsely, and said: 'I committed fornication,' though he did not, and he attributed to him what was in him.
وفي الدعاء: ابتهل، أو يدعو كل ساعة لا يسكت، ونام على ما خيل
And in supplication: Ibtehala, or he prays every hour without stopping, and he slept on what he imagined.
ولفلان، وفيه: لم يدع جهدا مما له أو عليه
And for so-and-so, and in it: he spared no effort in what was his or against him.
وابتهر بفلانة، بالضم: شهر بها
And Ibtehara with so-and-so, with damma: he became famous for her.

And Bahara: he boasted.
وانبهر السيف: انكسر نصفين
And the sword became 'anbahara': it broke in half.
وابهار الليل: انتصف، أو تراكبت ظلمته، أو ذهبت عامته، أو بقي نحو ثلثه
And the night reached 'ibhar': it reached midnight, or its darkness intensified, or its majority passed, or about a third of it remained.
