وأرسلته يأتيها بنار، فوجد قوما يخرجون إلى مصر، فتبعهم، وأقام بها سنة، ثم قدم، فأخذ نارا، وجاء يعدو، فعثر وتبدد الجمر، فقال: "تعست العجلة"، فقيل: "أبطأ من فند"
And she sent him to bring her fire, and he found people going to Egypt, so he followed them, stayed there a year, then returned, took fire, and came running, stumbled, and the embers scattered, so he said: 'Cursed be haste,' and it was said: 'He is slower than Fand.'
وأفناد الليل: أركانه
And afnad al-layl: its corners.
وصلى الناس على النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أفنادا أفنادا، أي: فرادى بلا إمام
And the people prayed for the Prophet, peace be upon him, afnadan afnadan, meaning: individually without an imam.
وقيل: جماعات جماعات
And it was said: in groups, groups.
وقوله، صلى الله عليه وسلم: "تتبعوني أفنادا أفنادا يهلك بعضكم بعضا"
And his saying, peace be upon him: 'You will follow me afnadan afnadan, some of you destroying others.'
أي: تتبعوني ذوي فند، أي: ذوي عجز وكفر للنعمة
Meaning: you will follow me possessing weakness, meaning: possessing inability and ingratitude for blessings.
وقدوم فندأوة: حادة
And qudum fandawa: sharpness.
والفندأية: في الهمز
And al-fandaiya: in the hamz.
والتفند: التندم
