ولقب به محمد بن المستنير، لأنه كان يبكر إلى سيبويه، فكلما فتح بابه وجده، فقال: ما أنت إلا قطرب ليل.
And Muhammad bin al-Mustanir was nicknamed by it, because he used to go early to Sibawayh, and whenever he opened his door he found him, so he said: 'You are nothing but a night Qutrub.'

And Qatara: he hastened.
وقطرَب: صُرِعَ
And Qatara: he was seized (with a fit).
وتقطرب: حرك رأسه، تشبه بالقطرب.
And taqattara: he moved his head, imitating the Qutrub.
