And 'al-'usbah, with harakah: those who inherit from a man through collateral relatives, without father or son. As for in prescribed shares (fara'id): whoever has no prescribed share is 'usbah; if anything remains after the prescribed shares, he takes it. And a man's people who rally to him.
وَالْعُصْبَةُ، بِالضَّمِّ، مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالْخَيْلِ وَالطَّيْرِ: مَا بَيْنَ الْعَشَرَةِ إِلَى الأَرْبَعِينَ، كَالْعِصَابَةِ، بِالْكَسْرِ، وَهَنَةٌ تَلْتَفُّ عَلَى الْقَتَادَةِ لَا تُنْزَعُ عَنْهَا إِلَّا بِجَهْدٍ.
And 'al-'usbah, with dammah, of men, horses, and birds: what is between ten and forty, like 'al-'isabah, with kasr. And a tough part that wraps around a thorny plant and cannot be removed without effort.
وَاعْتَصَبُوا: صَارُوا عُصْبَةً، وَالنَّاقَةَ: شَدَّ فَخِذَيْهَا لِتُدِرَّ.
And they became 'usbah: they became a group. And the she-camel: her hind legs were tied so she would give milk.
وَنَاقَةٌ عَصُوبٌ: لَا تُدِرُّ إِلَّا كَذَلِكَ.
And a she-camel 'asub: does not give milk unless thus.
وَعَصَبُوا، عَصَبُوا بِهِ، كَسَمِعَ وَضَرَبَ: اجْتَمَعُوا.
And 'asabu, 'asabu bihi, like sami'a and daraba: they gathered.
وَالْعَصُوبُ: الْمَرْأَةُ الرَّسْحَاءُ، أَوْ الزَّلَّاءُ.

وَيَوْمٌ عَصْبَصَبٌ وَعَصِيبٌ: شَدِيدُ الْحَرِّ، أَوْ شَدِيدٌ.
And a day 'asbsab and 'asib: intensely hot, or intense.
وَالْعَصِيبُ: الرِّئَةُ تُعَصَّبُ بِالأَمْعَاءِ فَتُشْوَى، ج: أَعْصِبَةٌ وَعُصُبٌ.
