وقال أحمد بن يحيى: مناغاة الصبي أن يصير بحذاء الشمس فيناغيها كما يناغي الصبي أمه.
And Ahmad bin Yahya said: 'Munaghat' of a child is to stand in front of the sun and talk to it as a child talks to his mother.
وفي الحديث: أنه كان يناغي القمر في صباه ؛ المناغاة: المحادثة.
And in the Hadith: that he used to talk to the moon in his youth; 'Al-munaghat': is conversation.
ون اغيت إلى فلان نغية ونغى إلي نغية إذا ألقى إليك كلمة وألقيت إليه أخرى.
And you said 'naghi-tu ila fulan naghiyatan' and 'nagha ila-ya naghiyatan' if you conveyed a word to him and he conveyed another to you.
وإذا سمعت كلمة تعجبك تقول: سمعت نغية حسنة.
And if you hear a word that pleases you, you say: I heard a beautiful 'naghya'.
الكسائي: سمعت له نغية وهو من الكلام الحسن.
Al-Kisa'i: I heard a pleasant utterance from him, and it was of good speech.
ابن الأعرابي: أنغى إذا تكلم بكلام «1»، وناغى إذا كلم صبيا بكلام مليح لطيف.
Ibn Al-A'rabi: 'Angha' if he spoke words, and 'nagha' if he spoke to a child with pleasant, gentle words.
ويقال للموج إذا ارتفع:؛ كاد يناغي السحاب.
And it is said of a wave when it rises: it almost reaches the clouds.
ناغى الموج السحاب كاد يرتفع إليه؛ قال:

كأنك بالمبارك، بعد شهر، ... يناغي موجه غر السحاب
As if you are at Al-Mubarak, after a month, ... its wave reaching towards the white clouds.
يقال إن ماء ركيتنا يناغي الكواكب، وذلك إذا نظرت في الماء ورأيت بريق الكواكب، فإذا نظرت إلى الكواكب رأيتها تتحرك بتحرك الماء؛ قال الراجز:
It is said that the water of our well 'yanaghi' the stars, and that is when you look into the water and see the sparkle of the stars, and when you look at the stars, you see them moving with the movement of the water; the poet said:
أرخى يديه الأدم وضاح اليسر، ... فترك الشمس يناغيه القمر
He poured the ghee and clarified butter, ... and left the sun for the moon to reflect it.
وهذا الجبل يناغي السماء أي يدانيها لطوله.
And this mountain 'yanaghi' the sky, meaning it approaches it due to its height.
