ففي نعايا ثلاثة أوجه: أحدها أن يكون جمع نعي وهو المصدر كصفي وصفايا، والثاني أن يكون اسم جمع كما جاء في أخية أخايا، والثالث أن يكون جمع نعاء التي هي اسم الفعل، والمعنى يا نعايا العرب جئن فهذا وقتكن وزمانكن، يريد أن العرب قد هلكت.
So in na'aayaa there are three aspects: the first is that it is a plural of na'ee, which is the masdar like safi and safaayaa, the second is that it is a collective noun as in 'akhiyah' and 'akhayaa', the third is that it is a plural of na'aa' which is an ism fi'l, and the meaning is 'O announcers of the Arabs, come, for this is your time and your season', meaning the Arabs have perished.
والنعيان مصدر بمعنى النعي.

Meaning so-and-so has perished or the Arabs have perished with the death of so-and-so, so his saying 'O announcers of the Arabs' with the vocative particle means 'O this one, announce the Arabs', or 'O these ones, announce the Arabs with the death of so-and-so', like his saying: 'Ala yaa asjudu' meaning 'O these ones, prostrate', for whoever reads 'ala' with tashdeed,
وبعض العلماء يرويه يا نعيان العرب، فمن قال هذا أراد المصدر،
And some scholars narrate it as 'O announcers of the Arabs', so whoever says this intends the masdar,
ويكون النعيان جمع الناعي كما يقال لجمع الراعي رعيان، ولجمع الباغي بغيان؛
