ونضوت الجل عن الفرس نضوا.
And I removed the hide from the horse.
والنضو: الثوب الخلق.
And an-naḍw: an old garment.
وأنضيت الثوب وانتضيته: أخلقته وأبليته.
And I made the garment old and worn out, and I wore it out and made it decrepit.
ونضا السيف نضوا وانتضاه: سله من غمده.
And a sword was drawn, meaning it was unsheathed from its scabbard, and he drew it out: he pulled it from its sheath.
ونضا الخضاب نضوا ونضوا: ذهب لونه ونصل،

He set aside his bow and drew out arrows in his hand, meaning he took them and extracted them from his quiver.
ويقال: نضا السيف من غمده وانتضاه إذا أخرجه.
And it is said: a sword was drawn from its sheath, and he drew it out if he took it out.
ونضا الجرح نضوا: سكن ورمه.
And a wound healed, meaning its swelling subsided.

والنضو، بالكسر: البعير المهزول، وقيل: هو المهزول من جميع الدواب، وهو أكثر، والجمع أنضاء، وقد يستعمل في الإنسان؛

And the feminine is naḍwah, and the plural is anḍāʾ like the masculine, by imagining the removal of the extra letter;

And an-naḍī: is like an-naḍw;
وانشنج العلباء فاقفعلا، ... مثل نضي السقم حين بلا
And the neck of the camel became erect, ... like the leanness of sickness when it wastes away.
ويقال لأنضاء الإبل: نضوان أيضا، وقد أنضاه السفر.
And the emaciated camels are also called naḍwān, and travel has made them emaciated.
وأنضيتها، فهي منضاة،

If the reins were in my right hand, ... and in my other hand a danger to be wary of, she would come with the gait of one who has been made lean, ... and become submissive and give her reins without resistance.
إن المؤمن لينضي شيطانه كما ينضي أحدكم بعيره أي يهزله ويجعله نضوا.
A believer weakens his devil as one of you weakens his camel, meaning he makes it lean and turns it into an emaciated one.
والنضو: الدابة التي هزلتها الأسفار وأذهبت لحمها.
And an-naḍw: the animal that journeys have emaciated and stripped of its flesh.
كلمات لو رحلتم فيهن المطي لأنضيتموهن.
Words that if you rode camels through them, you would emaciate them.
أنضيتم الظهر أي هزلتموه.
You have emaciated the mount, meaning you have made it lean.
إن كان أحدنا ليأخذ نضو أخيه.

She saw me like the bits of the bridle and her husband, ... from the fullness, a slow, incapable one.
وسهم نضو: رمي به حتى بلي.
And a worn-out arrow: it was shot until it became worn out.
وقدح نضو: دقيق؛
And an arrow shaft, meaning fine;
والنضي من السهام والرماح: الخلق.
And an-naḍī of arrows and spears: the old ones.
وسهم نضو إذا فسد من كثرة ما رمي به حتى أخلق.
And a worn-out arrow if it became damaged from being shot so much until it became old.
النضي نصل السهم.
An-naḍī is the arrowhead.
ونضو السهم: قدحه.
And naḍw as-sahm: its shaft.
نضي السهم قدحه وما جاوز من السهم الريش إلى النصل،
Naḍī as-sahm: its shaft and what extends from the arrow from the fletching to the head,
وهو الذي ليس له ريش ولا نصل؛
And it is that which has neither fletching nor arrowhead;
وهو نضي ما لم ينصل ويريش
And it is naḍī as long as it is not headed and fletched.
والنضي أيضا ما عري من عوده وهو سهم؛
And an-naḍī is also what is stripped from its wood, and it is an arrow;
فمر نضي السهم تحت لبانه، ... وجال على وحشيه لم يعتم
And the shaft of the arrow passed beneath its chest, ... and it moved over its flanks without delay.
والنضي، على فعيل: القدح أول ما يكون قبل أن يعمل.
And an-naḍī, on the pattern of faʿīl: the shaft when it is first made before it is worked.
ونضي السهم: ما بين الريش والنصل.
And naḍī as-sahm: what is between the fletching and the head.
وقال أبو عمرو: النضي نصل السهم.
And Abu Amr said: an-naḍī is the arrowhead.
يقال: نضي مفلل؛
It is said: a blunted naḍī;
وألزمها النجاد وشايعته ... هواديها كأنضية المغالي
And the highlands followed it and its vanguard accompanied it ... like the shafts of swift arrows.
فينظر في نضيه ؛ النضي: نصل السهم،
He looks into its naḍī; an-naḍī: the arrowhead,
وهو السهم قبل أن ينحت إذا كان قدحا،
And it is the arrow before it is carved if it is a shaft,
سمي نضيا لكثرة البري والنحت، فكأنه جعل نضوا.
It is called naḍī because of the much shaving and carving, as if it has become worn out.
ونضي الرمح: ما فوق المقبض من صدره، والجمع أنضاء؛
And naḍī ar-rumḥ: what is above the hilt of its shaft, and the plural is anḍāʾ;
تخيرن أنضاء وركبن أنصلا، ... كجزل الغضى في يوم ريح تزيلا
They chose shafts and mounted heads, ... like pieces of firewood on a windy day.
وظل لثيران الصريم غماغم، ... إذا دعسوها بالنضي المعلب
And there were rumblings for the wild bulls of the barren land, ... when they trampled them with the worked shafts.
أول ما يكون القدح قبل أن يعمل نضي،
The first thing a shaft is, before it is worked, is naḍī,
فإذا نحت فهو مخشوب وخشيب، فإذا لين فهو مخلق.
And when it is carved it is makhshūb and khashīb, and when it is softened it is makhlaq.
والنضي: العنق على التشبيه،
And an-naḍī: the neck by way of simile,
ما بين العاتق إلى الأذن،
What is between the shoulder and the ear,
هو ما علا العنق مما يلي الرأس، وقيل: عظمه؛
It is what rises on the neck from the part near the head, and it is said: its bone;
يشبهون ملوكا في تجلتهم، ... وطول أنضية الأعناق واللمم
They resemble kings in their majesty, ... and the length of the necks and the hair.
نضي العنق عظمه، وقيل: طوله.
The naḍī of the neck is its bone, and it is said: its length.
ونضي كل شيء طوله؛
And the naḍī of everything is its length;
يقلب للأصوات والريح هاديا ... تميم النضي كدحته المناشف
He turns towards sounds and the wind, guiding ... the strong naḍī, whose brows were furrowed.
ونضي السهم: عوده قبل أن يراش.
And naḍī as-sahm: its wood before it is fletched.
والنضي: ما بين الرأس والكاهل من العنق؛
And an-naḍī: what is between the head and the shoulder of the neck;
يشبهون سيوفا في صرائمهم، ... وطول أنضية الأعناق واللمم
They resemble swords in their firmness, ... and the length of the necks and the hair.
طوال أنضية الأعناق لم يجدوا ... ريح الإماء، إذا راحت بأزفار
With long necks, they did not find ... the scent of slave women, when they went out with perfumes.
ونضي الكاهل: صدره.
And naḍī al-kāhil: its chest.
والنضي: ذكر الرجل؛
And an-naḍī: the male organ of a man;
وقد يكون للحصان من الخيل، وعم به بعضهم جميع الخيل، وقد يقال أيضا للبعير، وقال السيرافي: هو ذكر الثعلب خاصة.
