اللِّيَاء اللوبياء، واحدته لياءة.

And it is said: Al-liya' is from the plants of Yemen and may grow in the Hijaz. It resembles an onion in shape and is the size of a chickpea. It has thin, dark-colored skins. It is fried, then rubbed with something coarse like a cloth, and thus its skin is removed, and it is eaten. It may be eaten with honey, and it is white. Some do not fry it.

Al-liya, shortened, is the land whose water is distant and whose travel is arduous.
