القعوان: خشبتان تكتنفان البكرة وفيهما المحور، وقيل: هما الحديدتان اللتان تجري بينهما البكرة، وجمع كل ذلك قعي لا يكسر إلا عليه.
The qawwan: two pieces of wood that surround the pulley wheel and contain the axle, and it is said: they are the two iron pieces between which the pulley wheel runs, and the plural of all of that is qia', which is not broken except in this form.
الخطاف الذي تجري البكرة وتدور فيه إذا كان من حديد، فإن كان من خشب فهو القعو؛

إذا ضرب الجمل الناقة قيل قعا عليها قعوا، وقاع يقوع مثله، وهو القعو والقوع، ونحو ذلك قال الليث؛
If the camel struck the she-camel, it is said qaa'a 'alayha qaw'an, and qaa'a yaqoo'u is similar, and it is al-qaw'u and al-qoo', and Al-Layth said similarly.

And the man 'aqmaa in his sitting: he leans back on what is behind him, and a man may 'aqmaa as if leaning on his back, and the wolf and the dog each 'aqmaa on its rear.
وأقعى الكلب والسبع: جلس على استه.
And the dog and the beast 'aqmaa: they sit on their rear ends.
والقعا، مقصور: ردة في رأس الأنف، وهو أن تشرف الأرنبة ثم تقعي نحو القصبة، وقد قعي قعا فهو أقعى، والأنثى قعواء، وقد أقعت أرنبته، وأقعى أنفه.
And al-qa'aa, shortened: a curve in the tip of the nose, which is when the tip protrudes and then curves down towards the bridge, and he has become snub-nosed (aq'aa), and the female is qaw'aa, and her nose has become snubbed, and he snubbed his nose.
وأقعى الكلب إذا جلس على استه مفترشا رجليه وناصبا يديه.
And the dog 'aqmaa when it sits on its rear, spreading its legs and keeping its front paws upright.
وقد جاء في الحديث النهي عن الإقعاء في الصلاة، وفي رواية: نهى أن يقعي الرجل في الصلاة ، وهو أن يضع أليتيه على عقبيه بين السجدتين، وهذا تفسير الفقهاء، قال الأزهري: كما روي عن العبادلة، يعني عبد الله بن العباس، وعبد الله بن عمر، وعبد الله بن الزبير، وعبد الله بن مسعود،
And it has come in the hadith the prohibition of al-iqfaa' in prayer, and in another narration: he prohibited a man from performing al-iqfaa' in prayer, which is placing his buttocks on his heels between the two prostrations, and this is the interpretation of the jurists, Al-Azhari said: as narrated from the Companions named Abdullah, meaning Abdullah bin Al-Abbas, Abdullah bin Omar, Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr, and Abdullah bin Mas'ud.
وأما أهل اللغة فالإقعاء عندهم أن يلصق الرجل أليتيه بالأرض وينصب ساقيه وفخذيه ويضع يديه على الأرض كما يقعي الكلب، وهذا هو الصحيح، وهو أشبه بكلام العرب، وليس الإقعاء في السباع إلا كما قلناه،
As for the linguists, al-iqfaa' for them is when a man places his buttocks on the ground, stands his legs and thighs upright, and places his hands on the ground, like a dog performs al-iqfaa', and this is the correct meaning, and it is more akin to the speech of the Arabs, and al-iqfaa' in beasts is only as we have said.
وقيل: هو أن يلصق الرجل أليتيه بالأرض وينصب ساقيه ويتساند إلى ظهره؛
And it is said: it is when a man places his buttocks on the ground, stands his legs upright, and leans back on his back.
فأقع كما أقعى أبوك على استه، ... رأى أن ريما فوقه لا يعادله
So sit like your father sat on his rear, ... he saw that a mountain above him was not equal to him.
أنه، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أكل مقعيا ؛ أراد أنه كان يجلس عند الأكل على وركيه مستوفزا غير متمكن.
That he, peace be upon him, ate while sitting in a 'muqawwi' posture; meaning he used to sit while eating on his haunches, in a hunched position, not fully settled.
الإقعاء أن يجلس الرجل على وركيه، وهو الاحتفاز والاستيفاز.
Al-iqfaa' is when a man sits on his haunches, and it is al-ihtifaz and al-istifaz.
