He is one with approaching sandals, swollen-legged, with a seated posterior, walking with wide buttocks, a killer of gazelles, a seller of female slaves,

والقري: مسيل الماء من التلاع:

And al-Qari: the water channel from the ravines:

قام إلى مقرى بستان فقعد يتوضأ ؛

He stood by the basin of a garden and sat down to perform ablution;

رعوا قريانه أي مجاري الماء، واحدها قري بوزن طري.

They grazed by its water channels, meaning the courses of water, its singular is 'qari' on the pattern of 'tari'.

وقرى الضيف قرى وقراء: أضافه.

And he hosted the guest, 'qara' and 'qaraa': he added him.

He is indeed a provider of hospitality for the guest, and he is a provider of hospitality for guests, and he is hospitable to the guest, and she is hospitable to guests.

قريت الضيف قرى، مثال قليته قلى، وقراء: أحسنت إليه،

I hosted the guest, 'qara', like 'qalaytu qala', and 'qaraa': I treated him well,

والمقراة: القصعة التي يقرى الضيف فيها.

And al-Maqrah: the large bowl in which the guest is hosted.

والمقرى إناء يقرى فيه الضيف.

ولا يضنون بالمقرى وإن ثمدوا

And they are not stingy with the serving dish, even if they have little water.

وتقول العرب لقد قرونا في مقرى صالح.

And the Arabs say, 'We have hosted [guests] in a good place for hospitality.'

والمقاري: الجفان التي يقرى فيها الأضياف؛

And al-Maqari: the large platters in which guests are hosted;

وأقضي قروض الصالحين وأقتري

And I fulfill the duties of the righteous and I increase upon them.

أن يؤتى بعودين طولهما ذراع ثم يعرض على أطرافهما عويد يؤسر إليهما من كل جانب بقد، فيكون ما بين العصيتين قدر أربع أصابع، ثم يؤتى بعويد فيه فرض فيعرض في وسط القرية ويشد طرفاه إليهما بقد فيكون فيه رأس العمود؛

That two sticks, each a cubit long, are brought, and then a small stick is placed across their ends, to which they are bound from each side with a cord, so that the space between the two sticks is about four fingers, then a stick with a notch is brought and placed in the middle of the 'qaryah', and its ends are tied to them with a cord, and in it is the head of the column;

خشبات فيها فرض يجعل فيها رأس عمود البيت؛

Wooden planks with a notch in which the head of the house-pole is placed;

وقريت الكتاب: لغة في قرأت؛

And 'qaraytu' the book: a dialectal variant of 'qara'tu' (I read);

وصحيفة مقرية؛

And a 'maqriyyah' scroll;

والقارية: حد الرمح والسيف وما أشبه ذلك،

And al-Qariyah: the tip of a spear and a sword and the like,

والقارية هذا الطائر القصير الرجل الطويل المنقار الأخضر الظهر تحبه الأعراب،

And al-Qariyah is this bird with short legs, a long beak, and a green back, which the Arabs love,

أمن ترجيع قارية تركتم ... سباياكم، وأبتم بالعناق؟

Have you left your captives because of the call of a 'qariyah' bird, and returned with embraces?

والقارية طائر أخضر اللون أصفر المنقار طويل الرجل؛

And al-Qariyah is a bird of green color, yellow beak, and long legs;

والقواري الخضر في الدجن جنح

And the green 'quwari' fly in the gloom

والقارية طير خضر تحبها الأعراب،

And al-Qariyah is a green bird that the Arabs love,

وقري: اسم رجل.

And Quray: the name of a man.

ألقه في قريتك.

Throw it in your 'qaryah'.

والقرية: الحوصلة، وابن القرية مشتق منه؛

And al-Qaryah: the crop (of a bird), and 'ibn al-qaryah' is derived from it;
