أزاحمهم بالباب، إذ يدفعونني، ... وبالظهر مني من قرا الباب عاذر

إذا نفشت قروانها، وتلفتت، ... أشب بها الشعر الصدور القراهب

وما كان أقرى، ولقد قري قرى، مقصور؛

And how long-backed it was, and indeed it was long-backed Qara, shortened;

قرا الأكمة: ظهرها.

The top of the hill: its back.

أقرى إذا لزم الشيء وألح عليه، وأقرى إذا اشتكى قراه، وأقرى لزم القرى، وأقرى طلب القرى.

Aqra if he adhered to something and insisted on it, and Aqra if he complained of his back, and Aqra if he adhered to the path, and Aqra if he sought the path.

رجع فلان إلى قرواه أي عاد إلى طريقته الأولى.

So-and-so returned to his Qirwah, meaning he returned to his first way.

وهي الدبر.

And it is the anus.

اقتر سلامي حتى ألقاك،

Offer my greetings of peace until I meet you,

اقتر سلاما حتى ألقاك أي كن في سلام وفي خير وسعة.

Offer peace until I meet you, meaning be in peace, goodness, and abundance.

والقيروان: الكثرة من الناس ومعظم الأمر، وقيل: هو موضع الكتيبة، وهو معرب أصله كاروان، بالفارسية، فأعرب وهو على وزن الحيقطان.

And al-Qayrawan: the multitude of people and the main part of the affair, and it is said: it is the place of the battalion, and it is an Arabized word, its origin is Karwan, in Persian, so it was Arabized and it is on the pattern of Hayqatan.

فإن تلقاك بقيروانه، ... أو خفت بعض الجور من سلطانه، فاسجد لقرد السوء في زمانه

If you meet him with his army, ... or fear some injustice from his authority, then prostrate to the evil monkey in his time.

لها قيروان خلفها متنكب

تروحن من حزم الجفول فأصبحت ... هضاب قرورى، دونها، والمضيح

They returned from the slopes of al-Jafool, so they became ... the hills of Qarrura, beyond them, and al-Midah.

بين قرورى ومرورياتها

Between Qarrura and its passing places.

أقول إذا أتين على قرورى، ... وآل البيد يطرد اطرادا

I say when they arrive at Qarrura, ... and the family of the desert drives them away continuously.

لا ترجع هذه الأمة على قرواها أي على أول أمرها وما كانت عليه، ويروى على قروائها ، بالمد.

This nation will not return to its original state, meaning to its first matter and what it was upon, and it is narrated 'ala qaruwaha, with elongation.
