ما يتغذى به
What is nourished by
ما يكون به نماء الجسم وقوامه من الطعام والشراب واللبن
What causes the growth and sustenance of the body from food, drink, and milk
وقيل: اللبن غذاء الصغير وتحفة الكبير
And it was said: milk is the nourishment of the young and the delicacy of the old.
قال ابن السكيت: يقال غذوته غذاء حسنا، ولا تقل غذيته
Ibn al-Sikkit said: It is said 'ghadhawtu-hu ghidha'an hasanan' (I nourished him well), and do not say 'ghadhdhi-tu-hu'.
واستعمله أيوب بن عباية في سقي النخل فقال: فجاءت يدا مع حسن الغذاء، ... إذ غرس قوم قصير طويل غذاه غذوا وغذاه فاغتذى وتغذى
And Ayyub bin Abayah used it in watering palm trees, saying: And the hands came with good nourishment, when a short, tall people planted it, he nourished it and nourished it, so it was nourished and grew.
ويقال: غذوت الصبي باللبن فاغتذى أي ربيته به، ولا يقال غذيته، بالياء
And it is said: I nourished the boy with milk, so he was nourished, meaning I raised him with it, and it is not said 'ghadhdhi-tu-hu' (with ya).
والتغذية أيضا: التربية
And al-Taghdhiyah also: upbringing.
قال ابن سيده: غذيت الصبي لغة في غذوته إذا غذيته؛ عن اللحياني
Ibn Sidah said: 'Ghadhdhi-tu al-sabi' is a dialectal variant of 'ghadhaw-tu-hu' if you nourished him; according to Al-Lihyani.
وفي الحديث: لا تغذوا أولاد المشركين ؛ أراد وطء الحبالى من السبي فجعل ماء الرجل للحمل كالغذاء
And in the Hadith: Do not nourish the children of the polytheists; he meant intercourse with pregnant captives, so he made the man's semen for the fetus like nourishment.
والغذي: السخلة؛ أنشد أبو عمرو بن العلاء
And al-Ghadhi: the young goat; Abu Amr bin Al-Ala recited:
وغذي بهم في البيت هو أحد أملاك حمير، وسمي بذلك لأنه كان يغذى بلحوم البهم؛ وعليه قول سلمى بن ربيعة الضبي
And Ghadhi was among them in the house, one of the kings of Himyar, and he was named that because he was nourished with the meat of young sheep; and upon this is the saying of Salma bin Rabi'ah Al-Dabbi
قال شمر: وبلغني عن ابن الأعرابي أنه قال الغذوي البهم الذي يغذى
Shamir said: And it reached me from Ibn Al-Arabi that he said: Al-Ghadhwi is the young sheep that are nourished.
قال: وأخبرني أعرابي من بلهجيم قال الغذوي الحمل أو الجدي لا يغذى بلبن أمه، ولكن يعاجى، وجمع غذي غذاء مثل فصيل وفصال؛ ومنه قول عمر، رضي الله عنه: أمحتسب عليهم بالغذاء
He said: And an Arab from Balhajim informed me, he said: Al-Ghadhwi is the lamb or kid that is not nourished with its mother's milk, but is treated (with other food), and the plural of Ghadhi is Ghadhaa' like Fasl and Fasal; and from this is the saying of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: Am I to count the nourishment against them
وكذلك ورد في حديث عمر، رضي الله عنه، أنه قال لعامل الصدقات: احتسب عليهم بالغذاء ولا تأخذها منهم
And likewise it was narrated in the Hadith of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said to the charity collector: Count the nourishment against them and do not take it from them.
قال أبو عبيدة: الغذاء السخال الصغار، واحدها غذي
Abu Ubaidah said: Al-Ghadhaa' are the small young goats, their singular is Ghadhi.
وفي حديث عمر، رضي الله عنه: شكا إليه أهل الماشية تصديق الغذاء وقالوا إن كنت معتدا علينا بالغذاء فخذ منه صدقته، فقال: إنا نعتد بالغذاء حتى السخلة يروح بها الراعي على يده، ثم قال في آخره: وذلك عدل بين غذاء المال وخياره
And in the Hadith of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: The owners of livestock complained to him about the assessment of the young goats and said: If you are counting the young goats against us, then take their charity from them. He said: We count the young goats, even the kid that the shepherd brings home with him, then he said at the end: And that is fairness between the nourishment of the wealth and its best.
وإنما ذكر الضمير ردا إلى لفظ الغذاء، فإنه بوزن كساء ورداء، وقد جاء السمام المنقع، وإن كان جمع سم؛ قال: والمراد بالحديث أن لا يأخذ الساعي خيار المال ولا رديه، وإنما يأخذ الوسط، وهو معنى قوله: وذلك عدل بين غذاء المال وخياره
And the pronoun was mentioned in response to the word Al-Ghadhaa', as it is on the pattern of Kisaa' and Ridaa', and Al-Samaam Al-Munqa' has come, even if it is a plural of Samm; he said: And the intention of the Hadith is that the collector should not take the best of the wealth or its worst, but rather the middle, which is the meaning of his saying: And that is fairness between the nourishment of the wealth and its best.
وغذي المال وغذويه: صغاره كالسخال ونحوها
And Ghadhi and Ghadhwi of the livestock: their young ones like kids and the like.
والغذوي: أن يبيع الرجل الشاة بنتاج ما نزا به الكبش ذلك العام؛ قال الفرزدق
And Al-Ghadhwi: is when a man sells a sheep for the offspring of what the ram mounted that year; Farazdaq said
والغذى، مقصور: بول الجمل
And Al-Ghadha, shortened: the urine of the camel.
غذا ببوله وغذاه غذوا: قطعه، وفي التهذيب: غذى البعير ببوله يغذي تغذية
He urinated with his urine and he cut it off; and in Al-Tahdhib: The camel urinated with its urine, it urinated with urination.
وفي الحديث: حتى يدخل الكلب فيغذي على سواري المسجد أي يبول على السواري لعدم سكانه وخلوه من الناس
And in the Hadith: Until a dog enters and urinates on the pillars of the mosque, meaning it urinates on the pillars due to its lack of inhabitants and emptiness of people.
يقال: غذى ببوله يغذي إذا ألقاه دفعة دفعة
It is said: He urinated with his urine, he urinated if he released it bit by bit.
غذا البول نفسه يغذو غذوا وغذوانا: سال، وكذلك العرق والماء والسقاء، وقيل: كل ما سال فقد غذا
Urine flowed itself, it flowed and flowed: it streamed, and so did sweat, water, and a waterskin, and it was said: Everything that flowed has flowed.
والعرق يغذو غذوا أي يسيل دما، ويغذي تغذية مثله
And sweat flows, it flows: meaning it streams blood, and it flows with flowing, similarly.
وفي حديث سعد بن معاذ: فإذا جرحه يغذو دما أي يسيل
And in the Hadith of Sa'd bin Mu'adh: And his wound was flowing with blood, meaning it was streaming.
وغذا الجرح يغذو إذا دام سيلانه
And a wound flows, it flows if its streaming continues.
وفي حديث العباس: مرت سحابة فنظر إليها النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: ما تسمون هذه؟ قالوا: السحاب، قال: والمزن، قالوا: والمزن، قال: والغيذى ؛ قال الزمخشري: كأنه فيعل من غذا يغذو إذا سال، قال: ولم أسمع بفيعل في معتل اللام غير هذا إلا الكيهاة، وهي الناقة الضخمة؛ قال الخطابي: إن كان محفوظا فلا أراه سمي به إلا لسيلان الماء من غذا يغذو
And in the Hadith of Al-Abbas: A cloud passed by, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, looked at it and said: What do you call this? They said: Al-Sahab. He said: And Al-Muzn. They said: And Al-Muzn. He said: And Al-Ghaydha; Al-Zamakhshari said: It is as if it is Fay'al from Ghadha Yaghdhu if it flows, he said: And I have not heard of Fay'al in a defective verb except this, except Al-Kihah, which is a large she-camel; Al-Khattabi said: If it is preserved, I do not see it named except for the flowing of water from Ghadha Yaghdhu.
غذا البول: انقطع، وغذا أي أسرع
The urine stopped, and he hurried, meaning he hastened.
والغذوان: المسرع الذي يغذو ببوله إذا جرى؛ قال
And Al-Ghadwan: the one who moves quickly, who urinates when he runs; he said
وصخر بن عمرو بن الشريد كأنه ... أخو الحرب، فوق القارح الغذوان
And Sakhr bin Amr bin Al-Sharid is as if... a brother of war, above the strong, fast-moving one.
هذه رواية الكوفيين، ورواه غيرهم العدوان، بالفتح، وقد غذا
This is the narration of the Kufis, and others narrated it as Al-Adwan, with the fath, and he moved quickly.
والغذوان أيضا: المسرع
And Al-Ghadwan also: the fast-moving one.
والغذوان من الخيل النشيط المسرع، وقد روى بيت امرئ القيس: كتيس ظباء الحلب الغذوان مكان العدوان
And Al-Ghadwan from horses: the energetic, fast-moving one, and the verse of Imru' al-Qais has been narrated: Like a buck of gazelles, the energetic, fast-moving one, instead of Al-Adwan.
أبو عبيد: غذا الماء يغذو إذا مر مرا مسرعا؛ قال الهذلي
Abu Ubaid: Water flows, it flows if it passes swiftly; Al-Hudhali said
تعنو بمخروت له ناضح، ... ذو ريق يغذو وذو شلشل
It bows with a well-digger, a water-carrier, ... with a flowing saliva and a dripping one.
وعرق غاذ أي جار
And sweat that is ghādhin, meaning flowing.
والغذوان: النشيط من الخيل
And Al-Ghadwan: the energetic among horses.
غذا الفرس غذوا: مر مرا سريعا
A horse moved quickly, it moved swiftly: it passed swiftly.
أبو زيد: الغاذية يافوخ الرأس ما كانت جلدة رطبة، وجمعها الغواذي
Abu Zayd: Al-Ghādhiyah is the fontanelle of the head as long as it is a moist skin, and its plural is Al-Ghawadhi.
قال ابن سيده: والغاذية من الصبي الرماعة ما دامت رطبة، فإذا صلبت وصارت عظما فهي يافوخ
Ibn Sidah said: And Al-Ghādhiyah from a child is the soft spot as long as it remains moist, but when it hardens and becomes bone, it is the fontanelle.
