لا تعضية في ميراث إلا فيما حمل القسم ؛ معناه أن يموت الميت ويدع شيئا إن قسم بين ورثته كان في ذلك ضرر على بعضهم أو على جميعهم، يقول فلا يقسم.

والشيء اليسير الذي لا يحتمل القسم مثل الحبة من الجوهر، لأنها إن فرقت لم ينتفع بها، وكذلك الطيلسان من الثياب والحمام وما أشبهه، وإذا أراد بعض الورثة القسم لم يجب إليه ولكن يباع ثم يقسم ثمنه بينهم.

And if some of the heirs want division, it is not incumbent upon him, but it is sold and then its price is divided among them.
وفي التنزيل: جعلوا القرآن عضين ؛ واحدتها عضة ونقصانها الواو أو الهاء، وقد ذكره في باب الهاء.

Meaning they divided it into parts. And Al-Layth said: Meaning they made the Quran piece by piece and differed concerning it, meaning they believed in some of it and disbelieved in some of it, and every piece is an 'uḍah.
فقالوا شعر وسحر وكهانة، قال المشركون: أساطير الأولين، وقالوا سحر، وقالوا شعر، وقالوا كهانة فقسموه هذه الأقسام وعضوه أعضاء،
So they said poetry, magic, and divination. The polytheists said: 'Tales of the ancients', and they said magic, and they said poetry, and they said divination, so they divided it into these divisions and divided it into members.
وقيل: إن أهل الكتاب آمنوا ببعض وكفروا ببعض كما فعل المشركون أي فرقوه كما تعضى الشاة؛
And it is said: The People of the Book believed in some and disbelieved in some, as the polytheists did, meaning they divided it as a sheep is divided.
في الدار فرق من الناس وعزون وعضون وأصناف بمعنى واحد.
