The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to him: 'You are a poor orator. Say: Whoever disobeys God and His Messenger has gone astray.'

إنما ذمه لأنه جمع في الضمير بين الله تعالى ورسوله في قوله ومن يعصهما، فأمره أن يأتي بالمظهر ليترتب اسم الله تعالى في الذكر قبل اسم الرسول

He only blamed him because he combined God Almighty and His Messenger in the pronoun in his saying 'whoever disobeys them', so he ordered him to use the explicit mention so that the name of God Almighty would be mentioned before the name of the Messenger.

والعصيان: خلاف الطاعة.

And disobedience is the opposite of obedience.

عصى العبد ربه إذا خالف أمره

The servant disobeys his Lord if he violates His command.

وعصى فلان أميره يعصيه عصيا وعصيانا ومعصية إذا لم يطعه

And so-and-so disobeyed his commander, disobeying him with 'isyan, 'isyanan, and ma'siyah if he did not obey him.

فهو عاص وعصي.

And the 'asi: the young camel if it does not follow its mother because it is as if it is disobeying her, and it has disobeyed its mother.

والعاصي: العرق الذي لا يرقأ.

And the 'asi: the blood vessel that does not stop bleeding.

وعرق عاص: لا ينقطع دمه، كما قالوا عاند ونعار، كأنه يعصي في الانقطاع الذي يبغى منه

And a 'asin blood vessel: its blood does not stop, just as they said 'anid and nu'ar, as if it resists the stopping that is desired from it.

وعصى الطائر يعصي: طار

And the bird 'asa, 'asyi: it flew.

اعتصت النواة أي اشتدت.

The date pit became hard, meaning it became tough.

And in the proverb: Qusayr rode Al-'Asa.

كانت العصا لجذيمة الأبرش، وهو فرس كانت من سوابق خيل العرب.

Al-'Asa belonged to Judhaymah al-Abrash, and it was a horse among the swift steeds of the Arabs.
