Al-sabwah: the ignorance of youth and playfulness from flirtation, and from it are al-tasabi and al-siba.
والصبوة: جمع الصبي، والصبية لغة، والمصدر الصبا.
And al-sabwah is a plural of al-sabi, and al-sabiyyah is a variant, and the masdar is al-siba.
يقال: رأيته في صباه أي في صغره.
It is said: I saw him in his sibah, meaning in his youth.
والصبي: من لدن يولد إلى أن يفطم، والجمع أصبية وصبوة وصبية.
And al-sabi: is from birth until weaning, and the plurals are asbiyah, sabwah, and sabiyyah.
وأنشد لرؤبة: صبية على الدخان رمكا، ... ما إن عدا أكبرهم أن زكا
And Ru'bah recited: Young children on the smoke, like swift steeds, ... none of their elders exceeded in growth.
والجارية صبية، والجمع صبايا مثل مطية ومطايا.
And the female slave is a sabiyyah, and the plural is sabaya, like matiyyah and mataya.
وصبي صبا: فعل فعل الصبيان.
And he acted saban: he did the actions of boys.
وأصبت المرأة، فهي مصب إذا كان لها ولد صبي أو ولد ذكر أو أنثى.
And the woman is musabbah, so she is musabbah if she has a child, whether a boy or a girl.
التهذيب: امرأة مصب، بلا هاء، معها صبي.
Al-Tahdhib: A woman is musabb, without the ha, with her is a child.
ويقال: صبا إلى اللهو صبا وصبوا وصبوة؛
And it is said: He inclined to play, saban, sabwan, and sabwah;
وفي حديث النخعي: كان يعجبهم أن يكون للغلام إذا نشأ صبوة ، وذلك لأنه إذا تاب وارعوى كان أشد لاجتهاده في الطاعة وأكثر لندمه على ما فرط منه وأبعد له من أن يعجب بعمله أو يتكل عليه.
And in the hadith of Al-Nakha'i: They liked for a young man to have sabwah when he grew up, because when he repented and desisted, he would be more diligent in obedience and more regretful for what he missed, and further from being pleased with his actions or relying on them.
وأصبته المرأة وتصبته: شاقته ودعته إلى الصبا فحن لها وصبا إليها.
And the woman afflicted him and tasabbatah: she tempted him and called him to youthfulness, so he longed for her and inclined to her.
وأنشد ابن الأعرابي: لعمرك لا أدنو لأمر دنية، ... ولا أتصبى آصرات خليل
And Ibn Al-A'rabi recited: By your life, I will not approach a base matter, ... nor will I seek the deception of a close friend's bonds.
وإلا تصرف عني كيدهن أصب إليهن ؛
And if You do not turn from me their cunning, I will incline to them;
وصبا يصبو، فهو صاب وصبي مثل قادر وقدير،
And he inclines, yashbu, so he is sabin and sabiyyin like qadir and qadirin,
وصبت النخلة تصبو: مالت إلى الفحال البعيد منها.
And the palm tree bends, tasbu: it leans towards the distant male palm.
وصابى رمحه: أماله للطعن به؛
And he angled his spear, saban: he bent it for thrusting;
وفي الحديث: لا يصبي رأسه في الركوع أي لا يخفضه كثيرا ولا يميله إلى الأرض، من صبا إلى الشيء يصبو إذا مال، وصبى رأسه، شدد للتكثير، وقيل: هو مهموز من صبأ إذا خرج من دين إلى دين.
And in the hadith: He does not sabbi his head in bowing, meaning he does not lower it much nor tilt it to the ground, from saban to a thing if he leans, and he sabba his head, with shaddah forكثرة, and it is said: it is hamzated from saban if he leaves one religion for another.
والصحاح: الصبا ريح ومهبها المستوي أن تهب من موضع مطلع الشمس إذا استوى الليل والنهار ونيحتها الدبور.
Al-Sihah: Al-saba is a wind, and its steady direction is to blow from the place of sunrise when day and night are equal, and its opposite is Al-Dabur.
وقد صبت الريح تصبو صبوا وصبا.
And the wind blew, tasbu, sabwan and saba.
وأصبوا: دخلوا في الصبا،
And they entered the saban: they entered into the east wind,
والصبي: ناظر العين، وعزاه كراع إلى العامة.
And al-subiyy: is the pupil of the eye, and Kurra attributed it to the common people.
والصبيان: جانبا الرحل.
And al-subyan: are the sides of the saddle.
وقال ذو الرمة: تغنيه، من بين الصبيين، أبنة ... نهوم، إذا ما ارتد فيها سحيلها
And Dhu Al-Rummah said: It suffices him, between the two subyayn, a gullet ... that laps, when its contents return within it.
وقيل: الصبي رأس العظم الذي هو أسفل من شحمة الأذن بنحو من ثلاث أصابع مضمومة.
And it is said: Al-subiyy is the head of the bone which is below the earlobe by about three closed fingers.
والصبي من السيف: ما دون الظبة قليلا.
And al-subiyy of the sword: is what is slightly below the tip.
والصبي: رأس القدم.
And al-subiyy: is the head of the foot.
التهذيب: الصبي من القدم ما بين حمارتها إلى الأصابع.
Al-Tahdhib: Al-subiyy of the foot is from its ankle to the toes.
وصابى سيفه: جعله في غمده مقلوبا، وكذلك صابيته أنا.
And he sheathed his sword, saban: he placed it in its scabbard upside down, and I did the same.
وإذا أغمد الرجل سيفا مقلوبا قيل: قد صابى سيفه يصابيه؛
And if a man sheathes a sword upside down, it is said: he has saban his sword, yusabihi;
وأنشد ابن بري لعمران بن حطان يصف رجلا: لم تلهه أوبة عن رمي أسهمه، ... وسيفه لا مصاباة ولا عطل
And Ibn Burri recited for Imran bin Hattan describing a man: No return distracted him from shooting his arrows, ... and his sword was neither sheathed upside down nor idle.
وصابيت الرمح: أملته للطعن.
And I angled the spear, sabaytu: I bent it for thrusting.
وصابى البيت: أنشده فلم يقمه.
And he recited the verse, saban: he recited it but did not stand it upright.
وصابى الكلام: لم يجره على وجهه.
And he spoke crookedly, saban: he did not deliver it properly.
ويقال: صابى البعير مشافره إذا قلبها عند الشرب؛
And it is said: The camel turns its lips, saban, if it flips them while drinking;
وقال أبو زيد: صابينا عن الحمض عدلنا.
And Abu Zayd said: We turned away from the sour plants, sabayna.
