شَدَا مِنَ الْعِلْمِ وَالْغِنَاءِ وَغَيْرِهِمَا شَيْئًا شَدْوًا: أَحْسَنَ مِنْهُ طَرَفًا.

وَشَدَا بِصَوْتِهِ شَدْوًا: مَدَّهُ بِغِنَاءٍ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ.

The singer is the singer, and the learner is one who has learned a little of knowledge, literature, singing, or the like, meaning he took a part of it, as if he drove and gathered it.
وَشَدَوْتُ إِذَا أَنْشَدْتَ بَيْتًا أَوْ بَيْتَيْنِ تَمُدُّ بِهِمَا صَوْتَكَ كَالْغِنَاءِ.
And you sing when you recite a verse or two, extending your voice like singing.
وَقَدْ شَدَا شِعْرًا أَوْ غِنَاءً إِذَا غَنَّى أَوْ تَرَنَّمَ بِهِ.
And he sang poetry or singing if he sang or chanted it.
وَيُقَالُ: شَدَوْتُ مِنْهُ بَعْضَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ إِذَا لَمْ تَعْرِفْهُ مَعْرِفَةً جَيِّدَةً.
And it is said: I acquired some knowledge of him, meaning I did not know him well.
فَهُنَّ يَشْدُونَ مِنِّي بَعْضَ مَعْرِفَةٍ، ... وَهُنَّ بِالْوَصْلِ لَا بُخْلٌ وَلَا جُودُ
So they acquire some knowledge of me, ... and they are with connection, neither stingy nor generous.
وَأَصْلُ هَذَا مِنَ الشَّدَا وَهُوَ الْبَقِيَّةُ.
And the origin of this is from shadw, which is the remainder.
فَلَوْ كَانَ فِي لَيْلَى شَدَا مِنْ خُصُومَةٍ أَيْ بَقِيَّةٌ.
If there were in Layla a remnant of contention, meaning a remainder.
وَالشَّدَا حَدُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُكْتَبُ بِالْأَلِفِ.
And shadw is the limit of everything written with an alif.
وَالشَّدَا مِنَ الْأَذَى.
And shadw is from harm.
وَهُوَ الْحَدُّ، وَأَوْرَدَهُ ابْنُ بَرِّيٍّ بِالدَّالِ شَاهِدًا عَلَى قَوْلِهِ الشَّدَا طَرَفٌ مِنَ الشَّيْءِ.
And it is the limit, and Ibn Barrī cited it with the dāl as evidence for his statement that shadw is a part of the thing.
وَالشَّدَا الْبَقِيَّةُ.
And shadw is the remainder.
شَدَا إِذَا قَوِيَ فِي بَدَنِهِ.
He became strong if he became strong in his body.
وَشَدَا إِذَا أَبْقَى بَقِيَّةً.
And he remained if he left a remainder.
وَيُقَالُ لِلْمَرِيضِ إِذَا أَشْفَى عَلَى الْمَوْتِ: لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا شَدَا.
And it is said of the sick person when he is on the verge of death: only a remnant remains of him.
وَنَفْسٌ شَدَا لَمْ يَبْقَ إِلَّا شَدِيدُهَا.
And a soul with a remnant, only its strong part remains.
وَشَدَوْتُ الرَّجُلَ فُلَانًا: شَبَّهْتُهُ إِيَّاهُ.
And I likened a man to so-and-so: I made him resemble him.
وَارْتَحَلَ الشَّيْبُ شَدًا كَالْفُلِّ.
And gray hair departed like a remnant, like the ful.
وَالشَّدَا أَيْضًا: الشَّيْءُ الْقَلِيلُ، وَالْمَعْنِيَّانِ مُقْتَرِبَانِ.
And shadw is also: the small thing, and the two meanings are close.
فَلَيْتَ لَنَا، مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ، شُرْبَةٌ ... مُبَرِّدَةٌ بَاتَتْ عَلَى شَدْوَانَ
