وفي حديث وائل بن حجر: أنه كتب لأقيال شبوة بما كان لهم فيها من ملك ؛ شبوة: اسم الناحية التي كانوا بها من اليمن وحضرموت، وفيه: فما فلوا له شباة؛ الشباة: طرف السيف وحده، وجمعها شبا.
And in the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr: that he wrote to the rulers of Shabwah concerning their dominion therein; Shabwah: the name of the region where they were from in Yemen and Hadramaut, and in it: 'They did not break its shabah for him'; al-shabah: the tip of the sword and its edge, and its plural is shaba.
والشباة: العقرب حين تلدها أمها، وقيل: هي العقرب الصفراء، وجمعها شبوات.
And al-shabah: the scorpion when its mother gives birth to it, and it is said: it is the yellow scorpion, and its plural is shabawat.
قال: وشباة العقرب إبرتها.
He said: And the shabah of the scorpion is its stinger.
والشبو: الأذى.
And al-shabu: harm.
وجارية شبوة: جريئة كثيرة الحركة فاحشة.
And a shabwah girl: bold, very active, and immodest.
وأشبى الرجل: ولد له ولد كيس ذكي؛ قال ابن هرمة: همو نبتوا فرعا بكل شرارة ... حرام، فأشبى فرعها وأرومها
And a man 'ashba': he had an intelligent and sharp child; Ibn Hirmah said: They grew a branch of every forbidden spark... so its branch and its roots became 'ashba'.
ورجل مشبى إذا ولد له ولد ذكي؛ قال ابن سيده: كذلك رواه ابن الأعرابي مشبى على صيغة المفعول، ورد ذلك ثعلب فقال: إنما هو مشب، قال: وهو القياس والمعلوم.
And a man is mushba if he has an intelligent child; Ibn Sideh said: Thus Ibn Al-Arabi narrated it as mushba in the passive form, and Tha'lab refuted this, saying: It is only mushb, and he said: And this is the standard and known.
والمشبي: المشفق، وهو المشبل.
And al-mashbi: the compassionate, and it is al-mushbil.
وأشبى فلانا ولده أي أشبهوه؛ وأنشد ابن بري لعمران بن حطان يصف رجلا من الخوارج وأن أمه قد أنجبت بولادته: قد أنجبته وأشبته وأعجبها، ... لو كان يعجبها الإنجاب والحبل
And his children 'ashbahu' him, meaning they resembled him; Ibn Al-Bari narrated for Imran ibn Hattan describing a Kharijite man and that his mother was pleased with his birth: She gave birth to him and he resembled her, and she was pleased... if she was pleased with childbirth and pregnancy.
أبو عمرو: الإشباء الإعطاء؛ وأنشد للقشيري: إن الطرماح الذي دربيت ... دحاك، حتى انصعت قد أمنيت فكل خير أنت قد أشبيت، ... توبي من الخطء فقد أشصيت
Abu Amr: Al-ishba' is giving; and he recited for Al-Qushayri: Indeed Al-Tirmmah, whom you know... laughs, until he is satisfied and has been promised. Every good you have 'ashbayta'... repent from error, for you have 'ashsayta'.
وقال ثعلب: أشبى أشفق؛ وأنشد لرؤبة: يشبي علي والكريم يشبي
And Tha'lab said: 'ashba' means to show mercy; and he recited for Ru'bah: He shows mercy upon me, and the noble one shows mercy.
وامرأة مشبية على ولدها: كمشبلة.
And a woman mushabbiyah towards her child: like a mushbilah (compassionate).
والمشبي: المكرم؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.
And al-mashbi: the honored; from Ibn Al-Arabi.
والإشباء: الدفع.
And al-ishba': pushing.
وأشبيت الرجل: رفعته وأكرمته.
And 'ashbayta the man: you raised him and honored him.
وأشبت الشجرة: ارتفعت.
And the tree 'ashbat: it grew tall.
ويقال: أشبى زيد عمرا إذا ألقاه في بئر أو فيما يكره؛ وأنشد: إعلوطا عمرا ليشبياه، ... في كل سوء، ويدربياه
And it is said: Zayd 'ashba' Amr if he throws him into a well or something disliked; and he recited: Throw Amr down so they 'ashbiyaahu'... into every evil, and train him.
الفراء: شبا وجهه إذا أضاء بعد تغير.
Al-Farra': His face 'ashba' if it lit up after a change.
وأشبى الرجل: «1». طال والتف من النعمة والغضوضة.
And a man 'ashba': he became tall and luxuriant from comfort and tenderness.
والشبا: الطحلب، يمانية.
And al-shaba: algae, Yemeni.
وشبوة: موضع؛ قال بشر بن أبي خازم: ألا ظعن الخليط غداة ريعوا ... بشبوة، والمطي بها خضوع
And Shabwah: a place; Bishr ibn Abi Khazim said: Behold, the companions departed the morning they were stirred... at Shabwah, and the mounts were submissive there.
والشبا: واد من أودية المدينة فيه عين لبني جعفر بن إبراهيم من بني جعفر بن أبي طالب، رضوان الله عليهم.
And al-shaba: a valley from the valleys of Medina, in which is a spring belonging to the Banu Ja'far ibn Ibrahim from the Banu Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, may God be pleased with them.
